"You two need to clean the entire classroom... TOGETHER." Mrs. Belkin instructed, looking at Luke and I seriously.

"Why together..." I grumbled.

"Because you two need to learn to get along." She replied, and handed me a dust pan, and him a broom. She walked out of the classroom, leaving me alone with Luke.

"This is all your fault!" He blamed, muttering swear words as he swept the floor lazily.

"Just hurry up and finish, so, we can get this over with." I responded, holding the dustpan.

"Don't tell me what to do." He replied, glaring at me.

"Sorry..." I responded quietly, looking down. I saw his face change immediately, and I knew he felt bad.

"Jaya" He said quietly, slightly smiling as he had brought up a happy memory from our childhood.

"You remember that time?" I asked, tilting my head.

"The time we came up with a secret language and slept in the treehouse?" He asked, and chuckled, thinking about it.

"You remember that?!" I asked in shock. I didn't think he would remember that.

"Course. That was one of our best-" He stopped himself, his eyes turning steely. "It's kinda hard to forget your childhood." He said, rolling his eyes.

Was he trying to make himself seem tough? To seem like a jerk? Cause all that bull crap isn't working.

"Why do you insist on being someone you're not?" I asked, shaking my head sadly.

"I don't know what you mean. This is me." He replied, shrugging his shoulders.

"You're not the little kid who used to run around and tickle me." I said, feeling more and more sad.

"I was a kid. All that meant nothing." He responded, giving me a 'duh' look.

"Oh." I replied, softly.

I continued to hold the dust pan in place as he silently swept the dust off the floor. The tension in the air was heavy, neither of us wanting to say anything.

I guess he'd always only think of me as the girl he'd play with when he was little... Nothing more.

"I-" I started, but was interrupted by a loud noise from my phone.

"Hold you tight, straight through the daylight, I'm right here, when you gonna realize? That I'm your cure..." My phone's ringtone played.

That was the ringtone for Luke... But he was right in front of me?

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and answered my phone, confused.

"Hello?" I said, confused.

"Oh, hi Amber. Sorry... This is Will, but I thought you might be with Luke? He left his phone in 7th period on the seat." Will said through the phone.

"Oh. Yeah. He is. Here." I replied, and handed the phone to Luke.

How did Will know I was with Luke??? Maybe Luke told him about our detention?

"Yeah. Yeah. I'm in detention now, so you can give it to me later?" Luke spoke into the phone.

Wait.. But if Luke had to tell Will we're in detention, then, doesn't that mean Will didn't know? What made him think we were together?

I was broken from my thoughts when Luke handed me my phone.

"Nice ringtone." He snickered.

"Nothing's wrong with liking your band." I said, holding my hands up in defense.
