Rose P. O. V

Present time...

"Rose, Rose... What happened?" Jade asked, shaking me.

"Nothing," I replied while wiping my tears.

"Oh...thats why when Rayder came to know that a new girl with name Rose is going to attend our school, he became really happy and believe me he never smiled before. He behaved really differently. That's why when you came to the class, everyone was staring at you.I thought you both were siblings."

"So, this was what you were trying to tell me in the class this morning?"

She nodded and said, "Now what is wrong with you two? I mean...you two are no more friends?"

"I am sorry Jade but I need to go to my job," I replied changing the topic.

"But... It's just four fifteen," She replied, looking at her phone.

"But it is forty minutes walk from here," I replied.

"I can drop you with my car," She replied.

"No, it's okay. Thanks," I said with a smile.

I stood, did my goodbye and started moving towards Peter's Cafe. I just couldn't talk about that moment. I thought talking about that would make me feel better but it didn't. Keeping the thoughts aside, I kept moving.

My shift at Peter's cafe had overrun and I don't want to be late for my job. I walked down the crowded street, dodging shoppers and office workers on the way. My stomach growled but there was no time to eat now. I stopped walking just before the glass front of the store, smoothed my hair down, rearranged my face into an expression I hopped looked relaxed and happy and strolled in.

The cafe was full. I looked around at the busy tables. An old couple drinking side by side, one cup of coffee each. A group of young women in their thirties collapsing with helpless giggles as a stern woman dining alone nearby looked on and frowned. Businessmen in their grey suits lighting up cigars. American tourists, trying to decipher the menu. A family and their teenage children. The noise level was high. The smoke level, too. But it didn't bother me. I was used to it.

"Good Morning Mrs Collins,"

"Good Morning, Rose"

"Today there are more customers. Can you please take care of it?"

"Sure,"

"Can you please take order from table 24?"

"sure,"

I took a pen, notepad and went to table 24.

"Good Morning Gentlemen, What can I get you...,"

The day passed by taking order and serving. It was finally dark outside means it's time for me to go back home.

"Mrs Collin, I should go home now," I said keeping the pen and notepad on the table.

"Sure," She replied with a big smile.

The cold onshore breeze blew right through my sweater and I bowed my head to one side, closing lashes weighed down with mascara to keep out the salty sting. The dampness of the sand was making its way through my skinny jeans and I hugged my knees close. My hair fell loose about my face, tousled, tangled. Under the fading sun it appeared brown, the honey blonde streaks lost to the night. I could hear the waves lapping like the ticking of a more leisurely clock, but never telling me the time, never demanding that I move on. When more light came from the moon than the sun, I stood and walked over the cool black sand to the inky water, letting it kiss my toes.

"Hey...," I was startled at this sudden voice and I know who it belongs to.

"Are you following me?" I asked him.

"You want me to?" Rayder asked with a big smile.

"No...," I said.

"I want to tell you something."

"What?"

He hesitated for a while and said,

"I have never been very good at talking. Whenever I try to express the emotions whirling in my soul, my throat tightens blocking me from saying anything. But I want to tell you this. I never should have let you go, I realize that now. You were always there for me. You quietly stood by my side supporting me. You are more than just a best friend to me. I could tell you things easily and you just listened. You always made me laugh. I thought I had my life figured out, but I didn't. Without my knowing from the moment I first saw you real love began to take shape in my heart. You are so different from the other girls. You cared. Love radiated in your heart spilling out into the lives of all those around you. You weren't just pretty on the outside you had a beauty somewhere deep within. Your voice is so beautiful. I will support you in everything but please don't leave me,"

He took a deep breath and continued," I love you, Rose,"

I controlled my emotions and said, " I don't love you,"
