You've been friends with Lance since childhood, being in the Galaxy Garrison just as long as him. You did almost everything with him...well, at least until you were both separated by, no, not Voltron, but you two were put in different simulation teams.

Right now, you and several other teams were standing outside the simulator, watching Pidge, Hunk, and 'The Tailor' himself: Lance.

Your POV~

"Look out for the overhang!" Pidge cried on the screen.

"No worries! My first year in flight school, know what they called me? They called me 'The Tailor' because of how I thread the needle!" Lance said, his voice full of confidence. He focused his eyes ahead. "Come around, come around! Come on! Come on!"

There was a crashing sound, causing me to flinch. A beeping noise took over the simulator. "We lost a wing!" Hunk cried.

"Oh, man." Lance said. There was the sound of an even bigger crash than before, and the simulator went dark.

SIMULATION FAILED

"Nice work, Tailor." I heard Pidge mutter as the shuttle door opened. Commander Iverson stood in the doorway.

"Roll out, donkeys!" Commander Iverson commanded, his voice booming. The three walked out of the shuttle simulation. Lance threw a glance my way, smiling. I smiled back, hoping to lift his spirits. "Well..." Iverson continued. "...let's see if we can't use this complete failure as a lesson for the rest of you students. Can anyone point out the mistakes these three so-called cadets made in the simulator?"

Several students rose their hands.

"The engineer puked in the main gearbox!" A student said. It was true, that Hunk had gotten so motion sick that he had thrown up in the gearbox.

"Yes." Iverson said. "As everyone knows, vomit is not an approved lubricant for engineer systems. What else?" I stayed silent. The three were my friends and I didn't really wanna hurt any of their feelings.

"The Comm Spec removed his safety harness!" Another student said.

"The pilot crashed!" The one next to me said. My eyes darted towards Lance, and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he felt somewhat guilty.

"Correct." Iverson said once all the students were done answering. "And worst of all, the whole jump, they're arguing with each other!" He turned to the three. "Heck, if you're going to be this bad individually, you'd better at least be able to work as a team! Galaxy Garrison exists to turn young cadets like you into the next generation of elite astro explorers, but these kind of mental mistakes are exactly what cost the lives of the men on the Kerberos mission!"

I made eye contact with Lance, and both our faces showed fear. We both know that Pidge was sensitive about the topic of the Kerberos mission, but we never knew why. Pidge did exactly what we thought he would. "That's not true, sir!" Pidge objected.

"What did you say?!" Iverson cried, looking over all of us with his broad shoulders and commanding aura.

Lance quickly slapped his hand over Pidge's mouth, shutting him up. "Sorry, sir!" Lance apologised for Pidge. "I-I-I think he may have hit his head when he fell out of his chair. But point taken!"

I could practically see the disappointment radiating from the commander. "I hope I don't need to remind you that the only reason you're here is that the best pilot in your class had a discipline issue and flunked out. Don't follow in his footsteps. Next!"

Lance, Pidge, and Hunk all stood next to me. I was good friends with the three of them. I was Hunk's taste tester, always there when he made a new dish. I was basically Pidge's hamster when it came to his experiments. And of course, I was childhood friends with him, been with him since the beginning.
