Michael was in his bathroom, coughing up petals. Red orchid petals came out with blood, and Michael winced as they came out. All his love and admiration for his best friend was in his toilet. He wiped his mouth and flushed it. Recently, his feelings for Jeremy had risen and taken form as painful petals in his lungs.

Once Michael had left to use the bathroom, Jeremy had ran towards the trashcan and coughed up blue rose petals, along with blood. He couldn't help it. Michael could do the simplest thing such as smile or laugh, and the flowers bloomed immediately. He rushed to throw the petals out before Michael returned, and resumed his place on the bean bag. Michael returned shortly after, and gave Jeremy a soft smile. Jeremy felt more petals, but kept them down. He gave Michael a small smile back, and they resumed their game. Michael felt the petals blowing open and trying to find a way out of him, but he ignored it and acted like nothing was wrong. They continued their game in an uncomfortable silence, both trying to conceal their presumably unrequited love for the other.

Jeremy felt it getting worse and worse, and he didn't know how much longer he could hold up. He looked at Michael, and all he could think about was how cute he looked focused as he was. Suddenly, he started coughing before he could catch himself. Petals and blood came up, and his vision was starting to dull.

"Jeremy!" Michael exclaimed, running to help his friend. He saw the petals and blood coming out of Jeremy's mouth, and Michael felt his own coming out. He coughed a bit and grabbed Jeremy's hand. Jeremy looked at him through tears and saw Michael's bloody petals. His eyes widened as he reached for Michael, his body feeling weaker, Michael grabbed Jeremy and pulled him close. He wasted no time putting Jeremy's lips on his own softly. His petals disappeared and for the first time in a while, he felt his lungs clear and healed. He figured Jeremy felt the same way, as the smaller boy deepened the kiss and hugged Michael tightly. Michael smiled and chuckled, holding Jeremy close. The two stayed like that for a while, until finally they just sat still, holding each other as it were their lifeline.
