(Wakes up. Looks around, confused.)
Where--- Where am I?
(Walks in the direction of the moon.)
At least the weather is nice. I think I will sit dow---
(Stops, Listens.)
I think I hear somethi---
Character Two:
(Pops up out of nearby bush.)
Who--- Who are you? (Panicked yell.)
Character One:
I--- My name is... Wait... I --- I'm not sure...
Character Two:
Hold still. I see a nametag on your bookbag.
(Reads nametag.)
Character One:
Well? What does it say?
Character Two:
It says Do-to-ku.
Character One:
My name is Dotoku... I actually like the sound of that.
Wait- does your bag have one, too?
Character Two:
Umm... I guess it is okay if you look...
Dotoku:
It says Fonix.
Character Two:
Fonix? That is weird. What if someone doesn't like it? (worrying and pacing)
Dotoku:
So what? Who cares. If you don't like it, you can shorten it to Fon. Or Nix, i guess.
Fonix:
Nix sounds like a boy name... what if when someone hears it they think i'm a guy? I have to go with Fon... but that sounds like an animal... I am not an animal... (pacing faster)
Dotoku:
Do whatever your heart desires.
Fonix:
I--- I don't know! What do you think? Wait, how can I trust you? We just met! Ugh--- (hands running through hair on each side of her head)
Dotoku:
I like the sound of Fon. I think it suits you. Now, we need to find shelter for the rest of the night.
Fonix:
Fon? Are you sure? I don't know... It isn't the best--- (worrying again)
Dotoku:
(walking the direction of the moon again)
Fon, hurry up. This will be fun.
Fon:
How can I trust you? We just met! You can't seriously expect me to trust you!
Dotoku:
Do you want to be alone in the woods by yourself?
Fon:
No! (panicking)
Dotoku:
Well, then follow me!
Fon:
Do we have to go this way? Don't you think that way looks safer? And what about that way? There aren't as many trees this way! (pointing in every direction except the one Dotoku is going)
Dotoku:
Fon, trust me. I know where to go.
Fon:
I--- ugh. Fine, fine. We can go this way.
Dotoku:
If it helps, remember I am here, so now you aren't all alone.
Fon:
Are you sure about that? I don't trust this forest. Or you. Or anyone for that matter. (voice growing distant)
(pauses for a few seconds but keeps walking)
The world is scary!
Dotoku:
Sometimes you can't let your worries lead you.

Patty:
Wow, Dotoku! Way to take the lead!
Dotoku:
I know, its kinda what I do.
Patty:
Any thoughts on the first chapter?
Dotoku:
I think it works well as an introduction. Just---
Fon:
What if they don't know how to pronounce our names? Patty!!! What do we do?
Patty:
Fon, I can cover that now.
(to audience)
Fonix is pronounced as it's spelled; f-on-ih-x
Dotoku is pronounced with both o's making the oh sound; doh-toh-koo
(to Fon)
Does that cover it for now?
Fon:
That works, I guess. But what if no one reads this? Then how will they know? Will people like this--- wait, will people like me?
Patty:
Fon, I am sure someone will read this.
Fon:
BUT WILL THEY LIKE ME?
Dotoku:
Why does it matter? And at least one person who reads this will like you. So don't worry.
Fon:
BUT WORRYING IS WHAT I DO BEST! Wait--- Am I even good at worrying?
