Scene: Dark forest, early in the morning. The sun barely shines through the trees. Two people of opposite genders trudge forward, deeper into the darkness.
REVIEW:
Fon:
Are you sure about that? I don't trust this forest. Or you. Or anyone for that matter. (voice growing distant)
(pauses for a few seconds but keeps walking)
The world is scary!
Dotoku:
Sometimes you can't let your worries lead you.
CONTINUE:
Fon:
It is getting darker. I don't like this. I want to go home. It is not good to be in the dark with a stranger. Why am I out here anyways? Where are my friends? Wait--- do I even have friends? WHAT IF WE ARE SEARCHING FOR A "HOME" THAT DOESN'T EXIST?
Dotoku:
Fon, who said we were going home?
Fon:
I did.
Dotoku:
And wasn't I the one leading?
Fon:
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE I LIVE?
Dotoku:
I don't. That would be rather odd if I did. I don't even know where I live.
Fon:
You are evil! Leading me the wrong way!
Dotoku:
First off, I would never hurt anyone.
Second, if you don't know where we are going, how would you know if I am leading you the wrong way or not?
Fon:
I (pauses) just have a good feeling about these kinds of things.
Dotoku:
So is that why you are so anxious about everything?
Fon:
That is---
(Stops, hears a noise coming from a tree)
Do you hear that? It sounds like... A song?
Dotoku:
It is probably just some bird.
Fon:
Do birds know actual songs?
Dotoku:
I see your point. I will check it out. Stay safe; I'll be right back.
Fon:
Alright, Thanks for --- wait.
DON'T LEAVE ME HERE ALONE! DOTOKU! COME BACK!
(waits for response, gets none)
Scene: Dotoku walks down a gravel path seemingly man-made. He looks around, but sees no signs of other people. Yet, he hears a song.
Character Three:
(singing in distance; only some words audible) ... I just killed a man.
.... gun ... head ... trigger ... dead
Dotoku:
(whispering) Was--- was somebody actually murdered?
Was it in this forest?
Who was it...
This is... not right. Something--- something is wrong.
Author/Character:
Dotoku:
Um, Patty, I think this ending is unfair to the readers.
Patty:
This is what they call a "cliff hanger"
Fon:
DID THEY HANG SOMEONE?
Patty:
No! Of course not! Where did you get that idea? We were talking about books...
Dotoku:
Fon is great at this stuff. She will always try to protect us with her thoughtful concerns.
Fon:
Oh, thanks, Dotoku. I didn't know you were so nice.
Dotoku:
I can be. Usually I need to defend my morals. Here, i felt it was necessary to give you some credit. It would be unjust to ignore your efforts.
Fon:
Thank you?
Dotoku:
You're very welcome.
See? Isn't it nice when I can give what you deserve and not have to worry about morality being infringed?
Patty:
That statements is a bit confusing, Dotoku, but I got you.
Basically, he is saying that it is nice when people follow their sense of morality because when they do, he can simply follow his and not have to worry about hurting anyone.
Fon:
Was that explanation for me? Do you guys think I am stupid?
Patty:
Of course not! I was just explaining to the readers.
Fon:
WHO ARE "THE READERS"?Patty:
Well, right now they are my friends and maybe someone else. It might change over time, tho---
Fon:
What do you mean "readers" and "friends"?
Aren't you imaginary?
Patty:
Wait, you think I am imaginary?
Fon:
Well, what else would I think of you? You are just an avatar in a game.
Patty:
Is this really what you guys think of me?
Dotoku:
Although it is rude to call someone imaginary, Patty, you are not part of our world; hence, you are created by the mind, or imaginary.
Patty:
Interesting. Very, very interesting.
