I hold Natalie close to me and walk down to the house. I ring the doorbell and Trudy opens for me. "Hello, Rose! How nice to see you!", her gaze goes to the baby, "And you brought someone with you! Aww, look at her, she's so sweet! Congratulations!" "Thank you, Trudy. Can we come in?" "Of course you can! I've just made a pot of tea, you're just right." I go through the hall and step into her living room. "Your new home is absolutely lovely. It really is." "Thanks, we're just moving in, so nevermind if it looks a bit chaotic." "How are your husband and Katie doing?" "They're both fine, Katie is asleep and Joe has a free day today." Immediately, Trudy's husband Joe is coming down the stairs. "Oh, Miss Rose and her baby, hello!" He shakes my hand and then hugs Trudy from behind. They fit together. I knew it from the day Trudy introduced Joe to me. He is a tall, muscular man with dirty blonde hair and green eyes, everytime I see them together, I know that Trudy has a man who cares for her and the baby with all his heart and protects her fragile self. "Have I ever said to you that you two are a wonderful couple?" They both laugh and gently kiss. Trudy places the tea pot on the table and I notice that Natalie has also fallen asleep with Joe holding her. He lays her down on the couch in a kind of basket-looking thing Trudy uses to carry Katie around, which is filled with soft pillows and a blanket. "Let's speak quietly now." I smile when I look at sleeping Natalie. "How was giving birth?", Trudy wants to know while handing me a cup of tea.  "I was already in labour when we celebrated my mother's birthday. My water broke in the night and it was of course painful but it worked out fine, it was longer than Katie's." Trudy laughs quietly. "Yes, Katie was there very fast!" "Trudy, did you also have problems with breastfeeding her for the first time?" She nods slightly. "Yes, there were some problems. But I think that's normal, because everything's new. Don't worry!" "I...I screamed at her this morning because she sucked too hard...I fear I'm a bad mother now..." Trudy comes over to me and gives me a big, warm hug. "No, you're not! I bet you are the greatest mother Natalie could ever have! And if there are problems, you got me, you got Caledon and you got your mother. We're all there to help you." "I have another question." "What is it?", she looks excited. That's all in Trudy!
"Would you like to be Natalie's godmother?" "Of course!" Trudy jumps into my arms and I hug her back. "I'm going to start working as your housemaid in a week, then I'll see you every day. I'm really looking forward to this!" "I have to say that you're more than a housemaid to me. You're my best friend." And she really is.
