It was as bright as it could be on a chilly December afternoon, with snow dusting the ground and Christmas carols filling the air. Kids ran around the park playing on the playground. A dark skinned toddler laughed as her father pushed her on the swings, her thick black curls bouncing thanks to the force.
"Higher Daddy! Higher!" She shrieked, her pink scarf blowing along with her hair
"If I push you anymore you're gonna go flying Angelica!" Rich laughed, pushing his daughter on the swingset
"I'm gonna fly to London! After I graduate of course!"
"One day, but right now we have to wait for Dad to get back from picking up your brother and sisters"
Angelica pouted "Why do they still have to go school?"
"Cause sweetie," Rich said, stopping the swing and picking her up on his shoulders
"You're eleven! You're a big, smart girl in fifth grade, you need as break from school. Eliza and Evan are only ten and Peggy's eight!"
Angelica rolled her eyes, she was probably getting too old to be carried on her Daddy's shoulder but she held on regardless.
"I guess, but we can get ice cream after this right?"
"Always" Rich answered with a chuckle, picking up his daughter's belongings
A dark hand gripped the fuscia backpack before Rich's burnt one could. Angelica shrieked excitedly
"Dad!" She exclaimed
Jake laughed and picked up the backpack with one hand, Rich raised an eyebrow as the taller man kissed his forehead
"You got Eli, Ev and the Pegster?" He asked, Angelica hugging her other father from her Daddy's shoulder
"Yup! They're on the slides, and Peggy asked if we could get ice cream afterwards"
"You said yes?" Rich asked
"Always"
The shorter man laughed and walked closer to his husband, Jake grabbing Rich's hand as they walked towards their other kids. Halfway toward the slides Jake felt a small tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see a dark skinned woman with black hair that was starting to grey. She had wide dark eyes, her mouth slightly agape
"Um-Hello Ma'am may we help you with anything?" Rich asked, Angelica cocking her head suspiciously at the woman
The woman looked familiar but Rich couldn't pinpoint where he'd seen her face before. No words came out of her mouth and her eyes glossy with tears. She looked up at Angelica, a small smile on her lips
"N-No" she croaked "I just-you've grown so much. Both of you"
Rich could feel Jake's grip tighten on his hand. He looked up to see Jake smiling a smile filled with melancholy. Tears were threatening to roll down his cheeks and the shorter boy looked at the woman yet again.
"Tha-Thanks" Jake whispered
Before shaking his head and talking like if they were old friends "Are you and Franklin still on the run?"
"We're paying back, gone to prison twice in Europe but if they think that's gonna stop the Dillingers they're dead wrong!" The woman said laughing, making Jake join in on the laugh too
Rich squinted suspiciously at the pair, there was soemthing so familiar to the two of them. They seemed to almost be drawn to each other.
"You two staying in town for a while? Maybe-maybe we could stop and catch up, you could meet the kids" Jake asked
