Chapter 2: My Makeover

Glimmer's POV: 

I wake up and turn to look at my crystal clock on the wall. I blink a couple times to clear the blurriness from my vision. It turns out it's only 9:15 I still have plenty of time before the girls get here. I should probably go out and tell my parents. Mmm! I can smell the bacon. I decide to get up and walk out in my silk pajamas. 

"Good morning sweetie!" I hear my mum say as she sets a plate full of eggs and bacon on the mahogany table for me. 

"Mornin' mom." I say just as i cut up my eggs and begin eating them. They are perfect as always. As I cut into the golden yolk, the liquid runs all over my plate as would a dam that has just been released. 

"I hope you're planning on hanging out with Katniss today. She could really use some cheering up." She suggests giving me a hopeful smile. Of course I'm gonna hang out with Katniss!

"I am actually! Can the girls come over around 11 and meet Katniss? We hung out with her all last night so maybe she could meet my friends and join our little group. We may even take her shopping cause I think her dull clothes are consuming some of her depression."  My mom just laughs at my 'dullness' statement because she knows, being so used to our lifestyle, that it's true.

"Sure honey, but just keep in mind how hard this is for her. Don't push her to do or wear anything she's doesn't want ok?" My mom says protectively while giving me a bright smile.

"Of course! Thanks mom!" I jump up giving her a giant hug and putting my clean dish in the dishwasher. "When do you think she will get up?”

 "Oh honey I thought you knew! Haha silly me! She's been up since around 6:30ish." My mom informs me.

"What! Who gets up that early! That's like almost school time!" 

"I couldn't sleep Glimmer," I see Katniss in the doorway with her hair half dried in a ponytail on her head. She doesn't sound as shy as yesterday. She chuckles at my little comment. "I had a nightmare." She must have seen my expression because then she tells me that they are regular and nothing strange. As she sits down at the table I notice how pretty she actually is even without makeup. My mom offers her breakfast but she declines politely. I ask her about my plans and she seems to be up for it but I can tell in her voice that she's still a little down. "What time are your friends coming over?" 

 "Around 11," I tell her hoping she'll be up for it.

 She just nods, "Wow we still have about an hour!" 

 "Yup!" I say excitedly, "well I'm gonna go take a shower I'll see you in a little!"

Katniss' POV: 

As Glimmer walked out of the room I looked over at her mom as she sat down next to me. I buried my head in my hands as a tear slipped from my cheek. "It'll be ok sweetie, her friends are so nice! I think they will love you!" Her mom says encouragingly. 

"But what if they don't?" I ask worriedly. 

"Trust me they will!" She embraces me in a hug and walks back over to the stove. "Why don't you go dry that hair," she says with a laugh. I laugh too cause it's really cold down my back and through my robe. "I love seeing that smile!" She exclaims as I walk back to my bathroom to dry it. I still can't believe that it's my own personal bathroom. 

Soon enough an hour goes by with me on my bed flipping through a family album. I don't cry as much because that will make my mascara run. I hear the door bell ring and once again with my door wide open, I hear Glimmer squeal and run down the hall to get the door. I hear about three other voices while Glimmer calls my name, "Katniss! They're here!" 

As I walk down the hall I hear a girl, I think her name's Annie exclaim, "I love that name!" 

 "I do too." They all squeal not like Glimmer but pretty close. They are all dressed to the tens which makes me feel really out of place. I go over and sit on the giant couch that rims the living room and they come and join me. I wasn’t expecting to like these girls at first, but now that I've met them they seem really nice. Clove tells me that I will love it at Panem High. I don't really think 'love' fits my situation right now but I will warm up to it. After all it is the reality. Johanna fills me in on the entire group. I didn’t know there were more than the girls that were with me right now. There’s boys in the group too. I don’t normally hang out with boys. 

“So in our entire group there’s, Johanna, Clove, Annie, Finnick, Cato, Marvel, Gale, Peeta, me… and you!” Glimmer exclaims. 

“Me?” I ask.

“Yes you! You are now apart of this group!” Annie says.

“You guys seem really nice but you’re popular and you have all the ‘in’ things and me? I come from the poorest city in the country and I look like dirt compared to you.”  I try to explain but then Johanna cuts me off. 

“Then we should all go to the mall!” She exclaims. Everyone seems to agree with her so I don’t argue.

“Okay. Yeah sure. Sounds like fun!” 

Glimmer gets excited by everything so I can tell she can’t wait. Her mom must have still been in the kitchen because she comes out giving me five hundred dollars and tells me to get whatever I want and to have fun. I am appalled because I’ve never that this much money before. I can hear the girls whispering about how ‘cute’ I am about only $500 dollars. I mean to them it’s nothing. 

Soon enough we all pile into Glimmer’s Porsche and drive over to the Gallaway Mall. The girls are taking me into their favorite stores and soon enough my arms are full of all kinds of clothes which includes, dresses, shirts, pants, and the occasional pair of shoes. Of course none of the shoes are flats; they are all high heels or wedges. I go into the dressing room and try on my first outfit and when I come out all of the girls’ mouths drop open. I’m now carrying at least fifteen bags when Clove runs up to Sephora. It has all kinds of different makeup, and once again, I’m in awe. We walk all around the store picking out makeup that is super expensive. We come out with eyeliner, mascara, foundation,  eyeshadow, lipsticks, blushes, and bronzers. When we go to the check out it costs about $600. I start to object but Clove gives the cashier her credit card. We are finally done and were piling everything in the boot of Glimmer’s car. We decide to go back home and the girls stay for a few more hours. 

These girls are so much fun to be around! They made me laugh and smile more than I ever thought I would. They fill me in on the school and all of the teachers. They say they think the principle, Principle Abernathy, has a thing for the music teacher, Ms. Trinket. When it starts to get dark out the girls all leave and go home. Glimmer wraps her arm around me and says, “You are going to be the perfect addition to our group! I just know it!” 

“Haha thanks Glimmer! I love all of my clothes. Thank you so much!” I appreciate her taking me in and making me feel so… included as I should say. We go into her room and keep talking. I ask about the boys. “Why do you guys hang out with so many guys?”

 “Oh! Haha well we were all friends a few years about but then some of us went on to date a few of them. I’m dating Marvel, Clove is dating Cato, and Johanna and you are single as well as Gale and Peeta.” She informs me. I’m starting to like this place more and more all thanks to the girls and Glimmer. I tell her good night and go to my room and get ready for bed. I lay in bed until around 9:30 and shut my eyes and fall asleep. I have a couple nightmares but thats it. Thankfully I don’t wake up screaming tonight.
