Panem High (An Everlark Fanfiction)

Chapter 3: My First Day

Katniss’ POV

I wake up to my alarm beeping in my ear. I can’t believe that I’m in a new life about to get ready to go to my new social life at Panem High. I have to be honest, I am so nervous but I decide to get up. I go over to the window. The Sun has just begun to peak out over the mountains and the big maple tree across the street has tips of gold on their leaves. I smooth out the curtains and go into my bathroom, wash my face and take a shower. Once I get dried off, I go get dressed and half way dry my hair. Once it’s to the point where it not dripping down my back I pull it back off of my face and put on some foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush and a pale lipgloss. I dry my hair the rest of the way and get dressed in a pair of light wash short shorts and a sleek blouse and put on my white wedges. I grab my book bag full of binders and notebooks, and a few pencils… all the essentials for my first day at school. I grab my phone off of the stereo system that was playing my favorite Pandora Playlist, and walk downstairs after an hour of getting ready. 

I walk downstairs, praying that I won’t fall in these shoes, as I hear some familiar voices. They stop talking as I walk in the room. They all gasp as they praise me on how beautiful I look. I don’t feel beautiful but I do feel glamorous. This is a totally different lifestyle for me and I think I like it. We all chat while eating something for breakfast until around 6:45, “We should probably go, if we wanna introduce Katniss to the guys and get her schedule and hang out for a bit.” Clove offers. The rest of them agree and soon enough were out of the house and into Glimmer’s car. I sit in the front with Glimmer and Clove, Annie, and Johanna sit in the backseat. When we reach Panem High, I step out of the car grabbing my phone and my book bag and taking a look at the school. “Don’t worry,” Clove reassures me, “it may look big now, but we will all help you on your first day.” 

“Hey babe,” a boy walks up behind Glimmer and kisses her cheek, “I’ve missed you!” I watch as they kiss and break away. That must be Marvel. Glimmer mentioned him a bunch of times over the past week.

“Who’s this?” He nods at me from a few feet away.

 “This is my cousin Katniss. She moved here from District 12.” Glimmer explains. 

 “Nice to meet you! I’m Marvel.” He wraps his arm around Glimmer and we all start walking toward the tree where I guess they all hang out before and after school. 

 “Nice to finally meet you; Glimmer is always talking about you.” He just laughs as we approach the ‘popular tree’, as Glimmer calls it. It's in the middle of the green area and everyone is constantly looking over in the direction of our tree.

 “Hey guys! This is Katniss; She’s Glimmer’s cousin from District 12.” Johanna says as she sits down in a shady part under the tree. 

 All of the guys say hi to me and introduce themselves. I catch Peeta staring at me and I look away and blush. I sit down and chat with all of the guys about me since they are curious as to why Im here. Once I tell them my story they all apologize to me but I just shake it off. I don't want any pity here. I got plenty of it from everyone in Glimmer's house on the first night that I was there.

 Peetas POV: 

I’m sitting down in the grass by Cato, Finnick and Gale as the girls come over with a new girl that is absolutely beautiful. I find out soon enough that she’s from District 12 and once I hear what she has been through I realize just how strong she is. It must have been a rough couple of weeks for her. I find myself staring at her when I glance away all the guys are giving me weird looks. I feel weird about it and we all chat about what happened over the summer and we learn more about Katniss. She checks her phone and Glimmer, Johanna and Annie take her to get her schedule. Then Gale punches my arm. “Dude,” I punch his arm back, “What was that for?”
