Hospital trip

When I woke, I sat there thinking that I just had a dream. That I was laying in a bed at some motel in Liverpool. That I didn't hit a car and knocked out a boy who may or may not be alive. I jolted up at that last thought. Whipping my head around my mind came back to reality as sitting next to me was the boy.  His head still laid against the window sill, his jacket raising up and down slowly.

I slowly slipped down back into seat. My eyelids closed as I listen intently for sirens, but I only heard the soft chirp of crickets.  Looking down at the radio I noticed that the car was still running slightly. Turning the key I turned the car off but not enough that I couldn't listen to the radio. Whoever sat next to me had the radio off. I turned it on slightly and found the familiar pop channel. I sat listening to a popular song which had recently hit number 1 in the US. I hummed along to the catchy melody.

A siren interrupted the song. I got out of the car, almost leaping as I did so. I hobbled to the middle of the bridge in front of the accident. Waving my hands in the air I caught the attention of the speeding vehicle and slowed it to a stop.  My head swarmed and I felt incredibly dizzy. Trying to find a hood or trunk or something to lean on, I toppled over and fell to the ground next to the boys car. I took one last look at his body, his chest raising and falling, before blacking out.

Waking up, a bright white light shinned into my closed eyelids.I couldn't be dying. Nothing hurt me so bad that I should be dead. I opened my eyes and stared at a bright light above my head. I shut them quickly for the light burned. Turning my head I opened them again and found myself staring out of a window. The sun shone through the window, just hitting the sheets under me. A tree's leaves rustled as the wind blew. Clouds blocked the suns rays only for a second before they came out again. I smiled at a small brown bird that landed on the sill and chirped happily.

As door opened behind me, I turned my head to look at a beautiful nurse with bright red hair tied up in a ponytail and bright green eyes, they looked like they could have been emeralds. She smiled at me as she walked over to me and sat in a blue chair next to my white bed.

" I see we are awake finally," She said with a smile, her white teeth showing" And how do we feel right now?" Her voice had a warm touch.

How did I feel? My leg still had a small pain but it was almost gone. " I feel a lot better." Remembering the nurse's remark, I asked" What time is it?"

" It is almost three in the afternoon. You got here at least half an hour before eleven." She said. Her smile still shone bright.

Wow. I did sleep awhile. The time that I slept at the accid-. The Accident! I had forgotten about it.I quickly sat up in the bed, pulling the blanket off of my legs. I was about to jump out of the bed when the nurse placed her hand firmly on my chest before I could run out of the room.

" Miss. I need you to stay here. I can't have you running around the hospital." She said her hand pushing me back in the bed.

" But what about the guy I hit?" I almost yelled" Is he all right? Is he really hurt? Oh goodness, I can't live with the thought of killing someone!" I placed my head in my hands sobbing at the thought. The nurse got out of the chair and sat next to me. Her hand rubbed slowly up and down my back.

She said calmly," Miss. It's all right. The boy had to go into surgery for damage to his skull but it is small and he is expected to live. Miss. You were knocked out and we couldn't find your picture in your wallet so we don't know who you are. Would you mind answering some questions so that we can help you get the blood you lost? It wasn't much but it did weaken you a lot."

" All right." I said staring down at the large gash in my leg. Before now I hadn't seen the size of it. It ran up my knee to my thigh. The I noticed a smaller one on the opposite leg from half way up from my leg to my knee.

She started asking me small questions like my name, where I was born and when I was born. Those sort of questions and I answered. Katalina Christine Anderson, Wales England, and January 8, 1994. She said 'thank you' and got up to leave the room.

" Wait," I said." Is there any chance that sooner or later I can go see the boy I hit? Preferably when he is awake?"

" Well, I can see but he is in a coma so when you do go, he may be asleep." She said.

" Ok. Thank you." I said with a smile. She returned it and left the room shutting the door quietly.

Turning my head I looked out the window again and this time saw a small red bird that sat next to the small brown one. They both chirped happily and I shut my eyes. Before long, I fell into another long sleep.
