Floating. Stranded. Nowhere.
"Guys...awake.."
A voice. Female.
"Hey..Wake..."
She was saying something. I couldn't hear her.
"Hey!....C'mon.."
My eyelids felt heavy as I struggled to open them.
"JESUS!! WAKE UP!!"
I jerked up, my body shocked by the sudden yell.
"Geez Vicky, you didn't have to yell at her!' Another voice. She sounded female too.
"What? I got her up didn't I?"
The first thing I saw was a girl. Her chocolate brown eyes sparkling as she beamed warmly. One hand was on her hip as another one was extended towards me, invitingly. She reminded me of the sun. "Come on, Take it!" Her voice yelled. I started to extend my hand towards hers, ready to let her pull me up.
I came back to my senses.
I looked around, realizing the scene I was partaking in. Two people I didn't know, both girls, looking down at me. The one who offered her hand to me before, and the other one standing behind her, staring at me. The second girl, twirling her long black curls, spoke, " So would you mind telling us who you are and why you were chasing James across the city?" She gestured to a tree, where a boy stepped out from hiding. The boy I was chasing before.
" Yeah, you have some explaining to do," he said, crossing his arms in front of him, looking like he was ready to bolt at any given second.
This was dangerous. Complete, utter strangers had me in the most vulnerable position I've been in for years. The more information they get, the more helpless I would be. At this point, I had two options. Talk my way out of it, or run. I chose the latter.
I got up and ran, any direction was fine, just away from here.
"Not so fast!" I kept running, despite numerous shouts telling me to stop. Suddenly a long tree root rose off the ground and wrapped itself around me, tripping me.
I yelped, and tried to scramble away, but the root was locked around my leg, trapping me.
"Look, that's enough running. Just hurry up with your explanation and I'll let you go," James, the boy, said. He was towering over me, his eyes expectingly waiting for the answer I was supposed to provide.
Instead, I looked down at the tree root coiled around me. "H-How..." I whispered, completely shocked. How did he do that? Even the most educated people I've seen probably couldn't do that. It was impossible!
"James I know you're claiming she's an insane animal, but give the poor girl a break. She's scared straight." The girl with long black curls stepped toward me and crouched down to my level. " I know you're scared, but we won't hurt you," She smiled. "My name is Tylea," she gestured to the girl who woke me up before. " That girl over there is Vicky." Vicky smirked and nodded at me. "The grumpy guy is James. Sorry if he scared you." James looked down at me, his face expressionless.
Tylea looked at me once again, brown eyes observing me. "We're the keepers of this universe. We control the worlds filled with words."
