"So you're sure she's home?" Tom asked Lydia for the hundredth time, wiping his palms on his sweatpants.

"I'm positive, she texted me and said she was at the apartment and really lonely," Lydia reassured him as she pulled into her spot.

"Stop freaking out Tom, she's going to love it," Harrison said, patting his friend on the shoulder.

Tom let out an uneven breath, looking up at the apartment complex. He wasn't sure why he was so nervous, it was just a nice surprise for his girlfriend.

"Maybe I should text her, just so she isn't upset at me," he worried, gripping the bouquet of flowers tighter.

"Christ, Tom. The flowers are going to be ruined by the time we get up there, let me take them," Harrison diverted the conversation, prying the bundle out of Tom's hands.

"It's too late to text her," Lydia reasoned, "seeing her face when you walk through that door will make it all worth it."

"You're right," he said with a sigh, sitting up a little taller, "hand me the flowers, I'm doing this."

Lydia and Harrison shared a grin, both stepping out of the car simultaneously. They dealt with Tom's nerves the entire drive, and they were beyond excited for the plan to finally come into action.

They didn't speak as they approached the room, all of them nervous for different reasons. Tom was running on the small boost of confidence he had until he stepped in front of the door and heard laughter.

"Lydia, you said she was alone!" he whisper yelled, holding his ear up to the door.

"She was!"

"It doesn't matter, Tom! Just knock!" Harrison encouraged, offering Tom a small nod.

Tom raised him hand to the door and let out a long breath before knocking, terrified of the reaction he would get. He listened as small footsteps made their way to the door, as the peephole darkened, and as the door flew open.

"Tom?" Chloe asked from the door frame, not fully processing what was happening, "Holy shit, Tom!"

She jumped into his arms, the flowers falling to the carpet. In that moment all of his worries faded away. He had his girlfriend in his arms after spending far too long apart, and that was all he needed.
