Nick's POV
Maybe I just shouldn't go into town on my own again, I always seem to get caught.
God it's Sunday today and I really don't want to be going to school tomorrow.
I might check the dates of that after school club thing in running. You see, I've thought about something. It's not very elaborate but it'll do.
I'm pretty sure track is on a Tuesday after school until 5. That's 3:35 to 5:00, giving me and hour and 25 minutes extra away from Len and Clara with them actually knowing where I am. That's not much, but hopefully it'll give me more time to get home on that particular day as Len gives me such little time to get home from school normally.
When I go out they 8 times out of 10, get annoyed at me when I get back, but since they'll know where I am, maybe they won't, cause for school, they only get frustrated if I don't get back within their set times.
God, I hate it, it takes me about half an hour to 40 minutes to walk home from school and they say I have to be home before 4, the school day finishes at 3:35 so I usually don't get home in time, early days are worse, they say I need to be home by 3, do you wanna know what time school finishes on early days? 2:45, they literally give me 15 minutes to get home.
Okay, I just need to see if I can still get in with Coach Robertson, collect a sheet and then get permission from Len.
***
Monday came by quicker than I hoped it would but I got up nonetheless and got to school.
I was going to get the letter now, in the morning but then I realized if I go at break, I could try and avoid Charles and the rest of them.
So I decided to wait for break. The bell rang anyway so even if I wanted to go now, I couldn't.
I do have P.E today, but that's at the end of the day and I didn't want to stay behind again.
I went through the first two classes and started to make my way to the P.E department.
Dammit this is when anxiety gets to me, I don't want to go knock on the base door.
Please be Coach Robertson that answers this. I knocked and to my relief, the person I needed appeared at the door.
"Hello Nick?"
"Uh, I was wondering if you have any places left at the track club?" I asked.
"Really, you, you want to join!" He started getting excited.
"Uh, Yeah, if that's okay"
"Yes, that's more than okay, I just need to get you one of the letters, just wait here for a minute and I'll get you one" he smiled and I waited.
"If you can bring this back all signed by your parents, you could even start tomorrow if you wanted to"
He smiled and handed me the white sheet of paper, I nodded a thank you and left the department.
Okay, now to just get permission off of Len.
I finished the school day with a few encounters with that group and walked out the school, only to be stopped by freaking Lloyd Iverson.
"Hey Nick" I heard from behind me, oh no, pretend you didn't hear him. Keep. Walking.
"Nick, Wait up" he went in front of me, I saw him. Damn, I couldn't pretend I didn't hear him anymore.
"Oh, hey" I muttered.
"Um, I noticed you walk kinda the same way as me to get home and I have to walk today, I was wondering if I could walk with you?" dammit this is not gonna be fun. I didn't want to be rude though.
"Uh, yeah sure I guess"
"Cool, so how are you?" He asked warmly.
"Uh, could be better, I don't like school and I got a ton of homework to do, what about you?"
"Aw that sucks man, I'm pretty good, I have no homework apart from daily maths so that's great." He replied.
"So what do your parents do, any siblings?" He continued with these fucking questions, I know he's just trying to make conversation so fair enough.
"Uh, Len works as an estate agent and Clara is a hairdresser" I spoke, forgetting that people don't know I don't call them my 'mum and dad', I don't think Lloyd noticed I used their names though.
"And eh, I had a brother but eh-"
"Oh my god I'm so sorry, I completely forgot, I'm so careless. I'm so sorry if I offended you" he rushed out. I laughed a little.
"It's okay, if you want to offend me with it, listen to some of the things Charles and that say about it" I laughed again so it wasn't uncomfortable, he laughed a bit after I did as well.
That made me kind happy because most people would just stay awkward.
"Well, this is my turn off, it was nice talking to you Nick" he waved a goodbye and headed off in the other direction.
Dammit, we walked quite slow, it had only been 15 minutes and I still wasn't too far away from the school. To the pace I walk usually, from here it would take another 30 minutes but it was 3:50 and I had ten minutes before I had to get back.
I don't want to run but at this point I don't think I have another choice. So I began doing so.
I appeared at my front door at 4:10. Oh no.
"And where were you boy" I immediately got as I walked in the house.
"S-Sorry, I left something at school and had to go back" sounded more believable than 'I was walking with a friend and they were slower'.
He slapped me across the face and pushed me down. Still not believable enough then.
I guess this moment isn't the best to ask about the track then, I guess I'll have to wait til later or something.
Okay.... I can explain 😂 I apologize that I literally haven't published a part in months but exams are this year and I'm more focused on that. I probably won't be publishing often on any books, so I'm sorry. Byeeee.
