Nick's POV
God Friday was awful, I don't want those people to ever be at my house again.
I wanted to go out for a walk but Len and Clara hadn't gone out yet and it was 10pm on a Saturday. That's unusual for them, they usually leave at around half 7 to go the bar or something, I honestly don't know where they go, I just know they should be out by now and I'm getting a little bit frustrated.
Eventually, an hour later I finally heard the door slam, I waited to hear the car engine start and the car leave before I got ready to go.
I got a my bag ready, just and old school bag and brought like £10. There were still trains running at this time so it was okay, I just don't know how I'd get back.
I made my way to the train station and by the time I got there is was 11:40. The next train was at 11:44, so I got there on time, I bought a ticket from the dude working there and got on the train when it arrived.
When it finally stopped in town I got off and began walking. I don't know why I do this, I think I just like time to myself, decently far from 'home', But not too far. I've not done this in a while, I'd go to just clear my head. I began doing it as soon as I moved here but when I was almost 13 I stopped for about a year for some reason and then when I was 14 Sean died so I just fully stopped. Even though I went here to clear my head, I just wanted to stay in bed forever at that time.
Again, the only issue is getting home, I sometimes would get a taxi but I also hate taxis, so I only get them if I really want to be back.
I've even occasionally just slept on benches or just stayed in places that are open 24 hours and sleep on the chairs. I mean, it's not like anyone could stop me. Now I think about it, I'd mostly be taken home by this same police officer. It was always him, him and his partner, they were on duty every Saturday night so they were always the ones to find me.
I've been walking about for at least 3 hours now, so it was around 3:15. I knew Len and Clara would be back by now but they either don't care or just don't realize I'm gone, so they hopefully won't bother doing anything about it.
A car pulled up beside me and I looked in the window. Unfortunately I made eye contact with that same damn police officer that usually seemed to catch me. I thought I'd be better at this since I'm older but evidently not. He rolled down his window and I rolled my eyes.
"Well, well, well, hello Nick"
"....hi Marvin" I sighed.
"Aww, come on Nick, it's been a while. You were doing so well"
"Obviously not well enough" I muttered.
"It's been been a few years, you look well" he hesitated.
"Okay, goodbye"
"No, Nick, you know the rules. Your under 18, if anything happens to you, it's on us and we don't want that happening."
"How do you know I'm definitely under 18?"
"Because when we first caught you, you were 11, and it's been, what 3 and a bit years, so if I'm correct, your either 14 or 15" he smiled and I rolled my ways again, getting into the back seat of the car and putting my seat belt on.
"15" I sighed.
"New it"
"Hey" the other police man spoke when I got in.
"Hey Peter"
"Is it just the same place?" He asked, indicating he had to take me 'home'.
"Uh, no, not anymore" I sighed, remembering that whenever this happened I'd jut go to Sean's because he new my troubles, and how much trouble I'd be if I appeared in-front of Len with a police officer next to me. I didn't have Sean anymore. Where do I go?
"Nick?"
"Uhh, I eh, uh. 73 Greenwork Avenue" I blurted out. Fuck! That's Kevin's house, why do I even know Kevin's address? How do I even know Kevin's address?
"Oh, did you move?
"Uhh, yeah"
"Okay, off we go" How am I gonna get Kevin, or whoever answers the door to explain this. Then again, the police never questioned the fact that a child always answered the door, never an adult as I always texted Sean while I was in the car to make sure he answered the door. We just claimed we were brothers and they passed the fact I've done this countless times and haven't actually done anything about it apart from taking me home.
I don't think a parent has actually ever answered the door so let's just hope Kevin does.
We appeared at the front door and I began shaking, partly from cold and partly from I'm fucked if Kevin's parents answer.
I let go of the breath I didn't even know I was holding when Kevin answered the door with a shocked look on his face.
He looked at me and I gave him pleading eyes.
"Hey officer?" He questioningly introduced.
"Hello, um Nick, where's your brother?" Marvin asked.
"Umm, ehh-"
"Oh, I'm his cousin, his brother is out The now along with all the parents" Kevin smiled innocently, I like this dude.
"At 3:30 in the morning?" Peter questioned, checking his watch.
"Uhh, yeah. They like to...um.....stargaze?" Kevin spoke, like he was questioning his answer.
"Okay, well, tell your cousin to stop lurking about town at half 3 in the morning....for about the 50th time" the officers looked at me and I gave them a sweet but sarcastic smile before Kevin ushered me in and closed the door.
"Umm, care to explain?"
"I should eh, I should get going now" I smiled and went to open the front door.
"I just saved your ass, you better get talking" oh.
"Ughh fine. I just go on walks sometimes and the police usually catch me"
"That's it?"
"Mmhmm"
"Not gonna, you know, tell me why your awake and in town at half 3 in the morning?"
"....nope"
"Nick.."
"Fine, I like to go out at late times because it clears my head better" And it gets me away from Len and Clara for a few hours.
"And what do your parents think of this?"
"They Uhh, they aren't in.."
"You said like to, that indicates that you do this often. You also said they aren't in as if they never were supposed to know about this occasion, but I doubt they'd be out every Saturday night as you apparently do this a lot"
"You'd be surprised" I muttered, damn this guy is good.
"What was that?"
"Uhh, yeah, they uhhh, they...sleep?" I finished, almost like a question.
"...yeah that does make sense actually" few.
"Okay, well it was nice seeing you, I'll be off now-"
"Yeah that's not happening, your gonna stay here for the night, you can sleep in my room with me because I don't trust you to sleep on the sofa or for me to go sleep in my parents room"
"But-"
"No buts, if something bad happens to you, I'll feel bad, and you just got caught by the police, so- Hey? Why don't they ever call your parents if this seems to be happening over and over again?" He asked.
"I mean, the police round here aren't very good"
"Yeah good point" and with that he led me to his room and I got to pretend sleeping on the mattress he put down for me.
Okay, sorry I haven't posted in a while, I'm currently on holiday so that's fun. Hope you enjoyed this chapter :)
