Alana tensed as her eyes met the crimson red ones at the end of the hall, her knuckles white from gripping the handle of her blaster. As the dust settled from the explosion, a figure emerged from the dust clouds, two blasters in her hands. Her wicked laugh seemed to echo through the hallway, despite the commotion and the shrieks of horror that filled it as people pushed past them, desperate to get away from the Masked Damsel.
"You call those volunteers defence? No wonder so many died in that pathetic invasion of yours." The Masked Damsel taunted as she came to view, her mask concealing her identity, her words and knowing smirk causing Alana's blood to boil, the casualty list in her pocket growing heavier by the second. Footsteps stomped out of the floor, the last footsteps fading as the door slammed shut. Leo snarled, rage burning in him at her tone. She didn't even try to sound remorseful for the lives she and her organization had taken. In fact, she was ridiculing them, as if their lives are in vain."Yet we brought down your forces. Try again, kid." Leo shot back spitefully as Orbis subtly hopped into his blaster, but all the Masked Damsel could do was laugh at his statement. Alana and Leo glanced at each other, their eyes filled with apprehensiveness and question. The two glanced back at the laughing Masked Damsel, whose laughter had started to die down, downplaying into a grin.
"You may have brought down some of our devoted followers." She chuckled darkly before the snap of two fingers resonated through the hallway, and the hospital melted away before their very eyes. The walls dripped of darkness, the ground beneath them absorbing all the light except for once source of light from the top of their heads, allowing them to see each other. Before they knew it, they were ripped apart from each other, a force dragging Alana away by her abdomen, into the darkness before Leo could grab her hand.
"ALANA!" Leo screamed, but his response was the wicked cackles of the Masked Damsel, echoing from all directions. Leo looked around frantically, his eyes widened by fear as he seethed with newfound rage and the undeniable fear that festered in him. Orbis was equally as agitated in his blaster as he readied it, looking around warily. Fear grasped his heart, but he forced himself to shove it down and to deal with it later as his grip on the handle of his blaster tightened to prevent his hands from shaking.
"But Ataro will forever haunt you." Her voice echoed from all directions as images of Ataro and the people he and his forces killed forming all around him, Ashley's headless body, Deliah's body ripped apart at the seams, the burns all over Aquito's body, the open wounds all over Pronto's body, his head split open and mauled down, blood dripping as they saw many other of the fallen Defenders and friends he had lost to the long, tiresome fight they fought against Ataro and the dark energy that plagued the caverns. Their screams pierced his ears, causing him to drop his blaster as he sank to his knees, covering his ears.
"And you'll never escape his wrath." And with a snap, everything fell silent.
Then he blinked and Alana was kneeling next to him, and they were back where they were.
And a Greneater's fuse was shortening by the second at their knees.
The two gasped, scrambling to their feet and running away from the ghoul, Orbis hopping out of his blaster as he loaded and shot his Geoshard, Emerald, at the ground, a barrier of pure crystal sprouting seemingly out of nowhere, shielding Leo and Alana from the explosion. The shield of crystal lasted mere seconds before it shattered from the impact, the crystal shards raining down on the two slingers. They both peered forward to see Twist pinning the Masked Damsel to the ground, punching her with all he had before she shoved him off, unsheathing her sabres. Tears streamed down his face as the Masked Damsel grabbed his hand, throwing him across the room. He hit the wall, the breath sucked right out of him. Leo and Alana ran towards them, but the Masked Damsel held out her hands, and the pair were pushed back from the gravity powers she possessed.
