I wake up on Saturday morning feeling... well, awful. My neck hurts, and I have a slight headache, probably from my lack of sleep. The sun is shining right in my eyes causing me to roll over and stare at my wall.

Today is the big Halloween party. I don't feel in the party mood at the moment, I hope that changes because I already told everyone I was going.

After about 15 minutes of scrolling through my social media apps, I know I have to get up and go start my day. My bed is so warm, what if one could feel like this all the time? This sensation of being warm and wrapped up in soft blankets and so comfortable. I throw the covers off of me and shiver while getting up quickly walking to my bathroom.

At the sink, I am washing my hands when I feel myself... fading. I turn the water off and stumble back and rest against the wall, this has never happened to me before. I slide down to the floor and sit there with my hands on my head. It feels like my head is on fire. I close my eyes and breathe, you're okay Jaina, you're okay, I whisper to myself. I need to get water in my body. I try to get up and to the sink, I feel so weak. I turn the water on and grab a paper cup that I use to rinse my mouth out and fill it with the cool water. When the cup is full, I turn the water off and sink back to the floor. I bring the cup to my lips and sip the water, I almost instantly spit it out, It's like I just drank acid.

I pull myself up and lean against the wall for support, I wobbly walk over to my nightstand and grab my phone to text Jack. "Come to my room now," I shakily type out then collapse on the floor.

Seconds later Jack bursts in my room, "Jaina?". I lift my hand up to show him I'm on the floor and he rushes over to me. "Are you okay? What's wrong?" he says while helping me sit in the chair.

"My... head... feels like it's... burning," I weakly say.

"You are really warm, you feel like a furnace, I'll get you some water."

He tries to stand but I catch him before he does, "No I... tried that I can't... drink," he looks confused.

"Why?"

I point to my throat, "It burns." With every word,  the forest fire in my mind grows.

"Okay um... I'll get a towel then and some ice, I'll be right back," he gets up and exits my room.

It feels like every passing second I am being brought to a boil, and to make matters worse I'm starting to sweat too.

Jack makes it back with the towel and ice in his hand and presses it to my forehead, it burns like rubbing alcohol on a cut. "Is this alright?" He asks and I nod, I have to give this a try. "I'm going to take your temperature. You might have the flu or something," He grabs the thermometer he brought along with the ice and swipes it across my forehead. After it beeps he looks at it and his face scrunches, he presses some buttons and puts it on my forehead again. It beeps, and he looks at it with the same expression, "Jaina... this says your internal body temperature is 400 degrees."

 Oh no.

My eyes grow wide, "What... that can't be right that's impossible," I'm trying my hardest to suppress my powers but I can't.

"Jaina, we have had this same thermometer for years, it works perfectly, see," he swipes it against his own forehead and looks at it, "98.2 degrees, it works so that means that your body temperature is four times my own, which if you don't know is quite the problem."

He is going to find out.

"Jack... there's something I have to tell you," I weakly say. When he says nothing I continue speaking, "I have these... abilities."
