Taken (Voltron Fanfic)

Battle

The commander stands with his weapon drawn and a sneer on his face. Shiro tries to throw himself into the Galra, but is instead dodged and then chucked across the room at Keith, who's still holding the Green Paladin. Pidge, Keith, and Shiro all go crashing to the floor. Lance lifts his blaster and snipes at the commander, but misses. 

Matt uses the distraction and charges at the Galra, swinging his staff down. He makes contact with his shoulder, which sends him onto one knee for a split second. Then the commander swipes Matt's legs out from beneath him and elbows him in the upper arm. 

Lance proceeds his attack in order help Matt, and Keith is left to help Shiro up. Then he carefully moves Pidge to the wall. She opens her eyes as much as she can and looks up at him. He smiles back at her in comfort. 

"You'll be safe soon. I promise," he says to reassure her. All she does is blink and try not to black out from all the pain shooting through her. 

 He then leaves her side to help Lance and Shiro. Matt looks over at Pidge and runs to her, forgetting the fight. 

"Pidge... Katie. I'm so sorry we couldn't come sooner. We tried everything we could. We'll get you outta here, I swear."

She looks up at him with tears in her eyes. "M-Matt... I-I can't... move" She groans. 

"It's alright. You're going to be okay," he responds with obvious concern.

"N-no... I think... my s-spine is..." Pidge grits her teeth. "Broken... o-or fractured... I can... h-hardly breathe..."   

"Quiznak," Matt mutters. "I'm gonna take a body scan to see what's wrong." He pulls out a small device that takes an x-ray of her broken body. When the results pop up, he curses under his breath. 

"How are you still alive? Your-" Matt is cut off by Shiro. "Look out!" he shouts at the two Holts. 

Matt ducks and a blast from the commander flies right past his head. He then puts away the device and hears Keith yell, "We should head out! The rest of the fleet is on it's way here and the others won't be able to hold the distraction for much longer!"

Everyone starts to head for the hole in the wall where the lions are waiting. Lance shoots at the commander one last time before escaping and climbing into Red. Shiro and Keith both stop at the exit and look back to see Matt, running with Pidge in his arms. 

"You won't get away that easily!" the commander calls after the two. He sends a blast that skims Matt on the back of his calf. He cries out in pain and trips, dropping Pidge. 

Keith immediately rushes forward with Shiro at his tail. He helps Matt up and supports him. 

"No. Leave me. Just get Pidge out of here," he pleads with Keith, who only replies with, "There's no way I'm leaving you. She'd kill me anyways if I left you here to die."   

Matt manages a tiny smile while Shiro picks up Pidge and they all sprint for the lions. They reach the hole and Keith shoves Matt into the open mouth of the Red Lion where Lance is waiting anxiously. Right as Shiro goes to jump through the hole as well, the commander reaches him and throws him back onto the ground. 

"No!" Matt shouts. 

He pushes his way past Keith and smacks the commander in the face with his staff. Then Matt stumbles backward onto his injured knee and falls to the ground in pain. The Galra holds his eye where he was hit, then roars in rage and yanks Pidge out of the fallen Shiro's arms, knowing that she is their weakest link. 

He holds Pidge in the air, choking her. 

"Let go of her!" Shiro yells, and kicks one of the commanders legs out from under him. The Galra wobbles for a minute before regaining his balance and kicking Shiro aside. 

Then he draws a large knife and presses it threateningly against Pidge's already scarred neck. 

"Don't shoot. You'll just hit your friend. Now, everyone step out of the lions or she's dead!" The commander threatens.

"No! Let her go!" shouts Matt. 

Shiro looks up at the scene and slowly rises from the ground, behind the Galra. He lifts his blaster and aims, praying that her won't hit Pidge.        

Keith catches onto what he's about to do and tries to distract the commander. 

"Fine. Just leave her alone and we'll all come out peacefully," he says, holding up his hands in surrender. 

"Hurry, or I may have to bring harm to this one," the Galra sneers, pressing the knife harder and drawing blood. Matt glares. 

"Don't you dare..."

He limps out of the Red Lion with Lance to support him and Keith follows close behind out of the Black Lion. 

"That's more like it. Now-" The commander never gets to finish his sentence as Shiro shoots his arm with the blaster. 

The Galra roars in anguish and drops Pidge. Keith expected this and is already catching her. Shiro punches the enraged commander, who stumbles backward. Then they all hurry into the lions; Keith, Shiro, and Pidge in Black and Lance with Matt in Red. 

They turn away from the Galra ship and fly through the battle outside. Hunk, Allura, and Coran have all been holding out for as long as they can, but there are too many fighters. 

"We've got Shiro and Pidge!" Keith reports through his comm. 

"Great job! Now everyone, return to the castle!" Allura replies. 

All of the lions retreat, barely escaping through a wormhole and into the Milkyway galaxy. Allura, Hunk, and Coran all hurry to the Black Lion's hangar where Matt and Lance are already waiting. 

"Matt, what happened to your leg?" Allura asks as she approaches. 

"I just got skimmed by a blaster, that's all," he answers, anxiously waiting for the lion's mouth to open. 

Soon it does, and Keith comes out holding Pidge and supporting a weak Shiro. Allura gasps at Pidge's state and Coran runs off to prepare a cryo-pod. Lance helps Shiro, in order to take some weight off of Keith, and they all rush up to the infirmary. 

Pidge is put in a white Altean medical dress and quickly placed in a cryo-pod. As the glass slides shut, her pained face morphs into a peaceful expression. Matt stares at her with worry, as do the paladins. Nobody speaks for a moment. Finally, Lance breaks the silence. 

"That was... too close. We almost lost Pidge in there."

Shiro sits down on the steps in front of the pod, head in his hands. Matt limps over and joins him.    

Hunk and Lance stand together worried about their friend. Allura grabs a medical kit and starts to wrap Matt's leg in bandages. Keith just puts a hand on the glass of Pidge's cryo-pod and hangs his head, afraid that she will never come out.

Soooooo, another chapter done. I didn't want to keep anyone waiting for this part because it's just so action packed.
