Jimin walked into his house that was a few blocks away from the ice rink. Sliding off his bag from his shoulder, he looked around to where he suspected his parents to be.
"I'm home." Jimin announced walking to the kitchen where his parents and little brother were eating.
It wasn't uncommon for then to start eating without him, he would usually be home later anyways. His little brother, Jihyun, looked a lot like Jimin when he was 16 but Jihyun had a little more weight and not as much height to him than Jimin had.
"How was practice?" His Dad asked after swallowing a mouthful of food.
"Perfecting your performance?" His mom added.
"Good, and yes. I think I have the triple loop combo down." Jimin said taking his seat but his heart felt heavy knowing that it still needed lots of work.
"Jungkook is younger and he's still doing better than you. I expect you to step your game up." Dad warned casting him a glance.
"You're better than Jungkook." Jimin's mom smiled and pilled food onto Jimin's plate to assure he ate well.
"Stop comparing me to Jungkook." Jimin laughed slightly. "We have completely different styles."
A constant habit, his parents would always compare Jimin to someone else no matter what it was. It could be grades, looks, or ice skating. But they both did it in different ways that it tortured him unintentionally. His dad wanted perfection while his expected perfection. They were supportive, but not in the way Jimin needed them to be. Their words mimicked how his brain thought, his need for perfection.
"I'm just saying that you work harder and that you're better." His mom shrugged with confidence in her statement.
"Give that competition all you got. You only have three days." He said sternly.
Jimin merely nodded then turned to his food. He zoned out as Jihyun rambled on about his day and how he almost hurt himself snowboarding again. Jihyun was a thrill seeker out of the two, he started snowboarding at a young age and found the jumps to be exciting. He started doing tricks then later began joining competitions when he could.
"So Jimin, do you have a girlfriend yet?" His dad asked after Jihyun finished his story about 'this guy at the ski resort yelling at him for being stupid'.
"Yeah..."
"Really?! That's great! I would love to meet her!" His mom cried in joy.
"Okay. I'll bring her over here tomorrow for dinner?" His parents both nodded in agreement, eager to meet her.
"Is she pretty?" His mom asked, needing details.
"Really pretty. Her name is Sohyun." Jimin answered smiling at them.
"I can't wait!" His mom squealed clapping her hands excitedly.
Jimin nodded with a fake smile to cover how awkward he felt talking about his girlfriend. He quickly excused himself to go and study and left his parents to conversant alone with Jihyun also finding an excuse to leave the room.
"Thank god he isn't gay." His dad sighed in relief.
"I was getting worried for a while. I was thinking he was starting to get feelings for Taehyung. Or even Jungkook." His mom said holding her chest with her mind finally as ease.
