Chapter XII
On Those Specific Times OnlyAinsley's P.O.V.
"Hello?"
"Hello Ainsley."
"M-mr. Eugene? I-is there anything I can help you with?"
"Yes, that's me."
"And please don't call me that out of campus." He lowered the volume of his voice, seemingly to hide that part of his speech.
"Call you what?"
"The little thing in front of my name."
"Oh, of c-course." I said, avoiding to say his name.
"Anyways, the media would like to question you."
I felt a sudden gush of confidence took over my shaken mind, "T-the media? You're making it sound like an interrogation." I said, leaving a small chuckle.
"It was never my intention, Ainsley." He said with his signature sultry voice, touching every single nerve in my body.
That statement made me lose every ounce of my confidence.
"W-what is it then? Why would the media want to interview a plain person like me?"
"Seems like they've gotten interested in you."
"And Ainsley,"
"Y-yes?"
"You're anything but plain."
"Be ready Saturday morning, okay? Wear something simple. I'll pick you up in front of your house at 9. I'm taking you somewhere."
I sat there, on my sofa, frozen. I didn't know what to say.
I was just an "anything but plain" girl. How did I end up getting the media wanting to "question" me? What did Mr. Eugene do? How did he get people to question me? Why- Okay, I'm getting carried away.
Truth be told, I don't really like the attention. I don't even like the small stares people give me when I get perfect on a test. How am I supposed to stand in front of the media, who are possibly at least 20 people, bringing cameras on their backs? It just seems so weird, answering a call from my teacher telling me that the media wants to question me, for what? The achievements I get in school?
"Ainsley?"
"Y-yes?"
"Is that okay?"
"Umm... What is it about though? Why am I requested to come anyway?"
"There are just...some...things. You don't have to worry. I'll be beside you all the time."
"I've gotta go now. See you."

Eugene's P.O.V.
I stepped inside the large campus, sighing as I looked at my watch.
9.50
I'm 10 minutes early.
I was wondering what to do for the next 10 minutes before I realized, I've never gotten the chance to look around this place. I decided to go on the long route to the office.
I stared at the main hallway, it's end is barely seen. Its walls were painted in an ivory color, with announcement boards all over. The tiles were of white, reflective ceramic, giving a nice clean look.
I must admit, this is a high-end private school. Not many can afford to go to this school. And if I'm not wrong, Ainsley's the first to come with a full scholarship, from tuition to extra classes and field trips.
Yeah, she is really smart. Like a nerd. A pretty nerd - wait what?
My mind was wondering, making this large, odd bubble of thoughts. I didn't even pay attention as I walked down the hallway. My brain was floating in my little (large) bubble, drifting and passing each and every thought.
This was affecting me more than I thought, as I barely dodged a column. I returned my brain to the current situation, and walked to the Principal's office.
Really though, the Principal's office open at weekends is a new thing. I would be lying if I had said that I wasn't shocked. I was, utterly shocked, to say the least.
I lifted one foot after the other, slowly sauntering to the office. I gave a small knock at the dor before hearing a faint "come in".
"Good afternoon, Sir. You would like to see me?" I said, mentally rolling my eyes at the oddly futuristic furniture.
These upgrades, I swear. How a school office can turn into a billionaire's office in less than a week is a miracle.
I know probably lots of people already said this, but... Note the sarcasm.
"Eugene. Its been awhile."
Says the one who only wants to meet me on "specific times only".
"Yeah. What is it that you'd like to talk about?"
"Hmm... How about next year you will be replacing me here?"
"But, what are you going to-"
"Retired, vacation." He interrupted.
"Don't you think, I've been obeying you for years now, and I need a break too." I tried putting some logic into that head.
I stepped closer and placed my palms on the glass surface of the desk, squaring my shoulders and eyeing him in the eyes.
"I told you, breaks are for the weak."
I chuckled, removing my body from his desk as I turned my body towards the door and said, "Concludes my weakness then."
I pressed the handle of the frosted glass door, pushing it open. I stepped out, not quite closing the door.
"I wished you would've listened to me. To Eric. To Mom." I spared a short glance to him and not so gently closed the door.
I sighed, taking out my phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey. What's wrong?"
"Mind going to The Opera with me tonight?"
"Bad day?"
"Mhm."
"Okay. I'll pick you up at 9 at your place."
