I woke suddenly, with a very excited Hanna shaking my bed.

"It's your first day of school!" she said, very excited.

I rolled over, ignoring the her cheery expression and covered my ears with a pillow. I already knew the first day of school was going to be hell. All alone in a huge high school for a another year of my mess of a life. The only person I knew in my school was Kyle, but he didn't want anything to do with me.

I got up and jumped in the shower. I brushed my hair and got dressed, just like it was any other day but it wasn't. The first day of school is the most stressful, miserable day of any teenager's life.

I went down stairs to eat breakfast but the only person there was John. He sat eating his cereal, making no eye contact at all with me. I grabbed a bowl and some cereal too and sat next to him but still nothing.

Tina, Hanna and Kyle soon came down and joined us at the table. Hanna and John would be starting school tomorrow but they still woke this early on a normal day.

"Samantha and Kyle, you guys should start walking to the bus stop. You don't want to be late on your first day." We got up and started collecting our supplies that we would need and on the way out I saw John look up and wave with a small smile appearing on his face.

We got to the bus stop, where several other kids were waiting too. Kyle left me standing alone as he started talking to his friends.

The bus finally came and we got on, I sat in the first seat alone. I suppose Kyle was popular at school, most of the upperclassmen knew him.

"Hey babe" said a guy about six foot tall, attractive but not as attractive as the male I saw yesterday. He stared at me awhile and I just looked at him, confused why he would be looking at me.

"When did you get here? I think I would have remembered a pretty face like yours." he said with a smirk and a wink. I still sat silent, not knowing how to respond to a comment like that. We arrived at school and as I was getting off the bus, I felt a hand grab my ass. I turned around, seeing the male who was flirting with me before and smacked him across the face. He should shocked holding his hand to his face. I got off the bus before anyone could bring attention to the minor scene I just caused.

Reaching the front doors of the school, I remembered Tina told me to go to the office. I sat in the office for a while as a boy with chocolate eyes and brown hair came out.

"It's good to have you back Mr. Hood" said the secretary, he smiled at me and I returned it. The secretary called me in, handed me my schedule, and told me where most of my classes were. When I got back in the hall, the bell rang immediately. I tried finding my class but after five minutes of looking I gave up and started a walk back to the office.

On my way there, I bumped into someone. Him. The famliar blonde boy said sorry, and helped me collect my fallen books. His eyes finally met my mine and a huge smile appeared on his face.

"It's you, the girl from target" he said with a laugh in his voice.

"That's me" I said, pushing past him, trying to save myself from the embarrassment that was about to occur. He grabbed my wrist and turned me around so I was facing him.

"Where are you going?" he asked, his grip still on my wrist, forbidding me from walking away.

"Back to the office" I admitted, looking at the ground, not wanting to make eye contact.

"Why?" he questioned, unsure of why I would be going there cause classes started ten minutes ago.

"I'm lost" I said, gaining more confidence to look at him. He smiled and took my schedule.

"Well, it's a good thing I know exactly where this is" he said smirking, and leading me to my class.

"So what's your name?" he asked.

"Samantha"

"So, Sam what are you doing in this shitty place" he questioned with a chuckle.

"Don't call me, Sam" I said in a rather harsh tone. I didn't mean for it to come out that way but he took no offense.

"And why is that?" he asked, arriving at my classroom.

"It's a story for a different time" I said, not thinking about what I had just said but just wanting this conversation to end.

"I'd love to hear it" he said, with a smile. With that sentence, I entered the classroom leaving a smiling Luke in the hallway.

I found the rest of my classes easily, but now was the period I had been dreading since I got here. Lunch. Lunch is where the cliques form and I know I will be stuck all alone. I walk into the cafeteria and scan the crowd. I spot Kyle and he notices me too, but turns his head. I grab my lunch and walk to the back of the room. I spot an empty table and sit by myself.

Shortly before the bell rings, I am no longer alone. Luke comes and sits across from me. I don't say anything, I know he will probably make fun of me for being the loser who sits alone at lunch but he suprises me when he doesn't.

After five minutes of silence, he speaks.

"Hey"

"Hi" I say in an almost inaudible tone.

"Are you okay? Did some bother you? I swear if someone did I'll kill him" He says rather rushed. I don't get why he's so concerned about me I just met him. He looks me in the eyes, waiting for me to say something but I just say quiet.

"Sam," he says but before he can finish the bell rings and I get up. He follows me out into the hall and grabs my hand.

"Hey, uh .. a couple friends of mine are having a party on friday and I was just wondering if you wanted to go?" he asks and lets go of my hand.

"I don't do parties" I say and his face turns to a frown.

"Maybe we could do something else then .?" he asks with hope.

"Maybe" I say with a smile and continue walking to class.

The day soon ends and I'm exhausted. I get on the bus and take the same seat I did in the morning. The boy who I assaulted is waiting for me in the seat when I sit down. I give him a strange look but he stays seated.

"Who are you?" I ask as he gives me a wicked smile.

"Oh you know, Justin, the kid you smacked in the face this morning" he says with slight anger in his voice.

Before I get the chance to speak to Justin again, a boy is standing in the aisle looking at us.

"Do you need a seat?" he asks looking at me, I nod my head and get up. Not even looking back at Justin.

"Hey, I'm Ashton" he says with an adorable chuckle.

"Samantha" I return, smiling at Ashton.

"Thanks for saving me from Justin" I add.

"Not a problem, that guy's an asshole" He says and I shake my head with laughter and agree.

Ashton is very easy to get comfortable with, there is no pressure or unassurance about what to say.

"This is my stop, thank you" I tell him and wave goodbye.

"See you tomorrow" He says and something about that phrase makes me happy. I feel wanted around Ashton. For once in my life, he seems to enjoy my company and wants to see me tomorrow.

"Yes, see you tomorrow" I smile.
