“I’m going inside.” I say passing Barbra on the way in.
“Go ahead.” She muttered.
Ignoring anything in my way, I walked straight into my Dads office. He was reading a newspaper, probably his own…
“I can’t do this.” I say taking a seat on the chair.
My Dad looks up from his newspaper “What are you-”
“Did you clean your office?” I interrupt looking around the newly cleaned office. The carpets were vacuumed, there were no more papers on the floor, his chalkboard was dusted clean, his desk was actually visible this time, the drawers were close, and my mom’s photo was gone.
My Dad smiles “Yep.”
I raise an eyebrow “Why? You never clean your office.”
My Dad shrugged “I’m having some people over. I thought they should interview me in a clean fashion.”
“But why-?”
“Why are you here again?”
I sigh “I need to talk to you about the boys.”
My Dad nods “Speaking of which, you never told me where your date with Harry was.”
This time I nod “He never told me. I was blindfolded the whole time.”
“But why didn’t you tell me as soon as-?”
“I want to stop.” I say not caring that it sounded rude that I interrupted him again.
My Dads face turns into one of confusion “Stop what?”
“Stop… everything.” I reach for a magazine on his desk that had a picture of Harry and I on the cover “Stop… this.” I point to us.
“You want to…?”
“I want to stop fooling the boys Dad! I want to stop pretending to be their friend! I want to stop faking being in love with Harry! I just want to stop!” I yell.
My Dad jumps a little not prepared for my outburst. “But, we just started. We’re just getting the good stuff, we can’t stop this whole thing.”
I stand up from the seat, not caring about the screeching noise the chair made.
“You don’t get it Dad!” I say pacing back and forth in front of his desk “It’s just so… Gah! This is all wrong! It’s all messed up!”
“Allison, what the heck are you-”
“Harry told me he loved me.” I stop pacing and look at the floor.
I feel my Dad freeze before he smiles. The bastard smiled!
“He did?” he says not believing it.
I nod my head slowly “Yeah.”
“What’d you say?”
“Nothing. I came here.”
My Dad stays quiet for a minute thinking it over. “Allison,”
“What.” I mutter still looking down at the floor
“That is the best news ever! Do you know how good this is? This is way better than being Harry’s girlfriend. He told you he loved you which means all you have to do is say it back, and we’re practically in! We can find out all types of things about them! We’ll-”
“Dad!” I say looking at my Dad with wide eyes. “No! No… This is way worse than faking his girlfriend, now I have to mess with this boys feelings? No! Being his girlfriend was bad enough! Now I have to fake the feelings? No!”
“But Allison-”
“No! No! No! I am not doing that! I quit and that’s final!”
“You can’t just quit!” my Dad says
I look at him straight in the eyes for the first time in years “I just did.”
My Dad’s eyes widen “You can’t! I practically own you missy! I can cancel your college plans any time!”
“Go ahead.” I say “Everyone has a choice Dad, I just made mine.”
My Dads mouth drops. He’s probably not used to me being in control this time “What about the boys huh? What are they gonna do once they find out huh?”
I shrug “I don’t know, and I don’t care you know why?”
My Dads rolls his eyes “Oh please tell me.”
“Because I’m in love with one of them, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” And with that last word, I leave.
I leave my Dad there. I leave everything there. I just leave, and don’t look back.
I enter the house slowly, not sure if any of the boys are home. They probably are, but I’m most afraid of what Harry will do if he sees me.
Luckily, no one’s there when I enter which means two things.
They’re probably in the game room playing a strange game of some sort.
Or they’re probably in Harry’s room, trying to ask him where I was and what the hell happened tonight.
I’m gonna go with option one here just so my feeling’s don’t get hurt.
I quickly climb the stairs making sure not to make any type of noise to alert the boys that I’m back.
I go to my room and get my duffle bag out, stuffing all of my clothes that were visible on the floor, the drawers, even the dirty laundry, and just put them in the bag.
I get all my stuff, which wasn’t much considering I was only here a week and lay them in front of me.
I get my guitar and put it in its case before throwing it on top of my duffle bag and making it roll off.
I sit on the edge of my bed, looking at the two things on front of me, deciding on what I should do.
My eyes dart from the bags, to the door where the boys are, back to the bags.
I put my hand on my forehead, not sure what I should do.
I could stay here, and lie to the boys but stay with the boy that I’m not sure about yet.
Or I could leave. Leave everything behind as they find out why I was on that cliff a week ago and make them mad like I’ve never seen before.
Gah! I’ve never done this much thinking before!
I love the boys, but I’m not sure if I should leave them just yet.
So I do the only thing that comes to mind.
I go into one of my drawers, take out a post-it and a sharpie, write in big letters the words I’M SORRY, stick it on my pillow, and leave.
Just like that.
