Don't Leave Me

Chapter 1

Paige's POV:

"Paige and Brooke let's go!" My mom yelled from downstairs.

Today for dance I decided to be twinning with Chloe. We are wearing a purple aldc bra top with purple booty shorts. I threw some grey sweatpants and my black aldc jacket over my dance wear.

I started walking down the stairs to go to the kitchen to get an apple before dance. Yet, with my luck, Brooke beat me to it and got the last apple. I grabbed an orange instead and headed to the car.

"Paige honey, you have to miss dance tomorrow." My mom told me.

"What?? No!! I can't! Nationals are in a week and I need to impress Miss Abby! I really want a solo at nationals this year." I complained to my mom.

"I'll try to work something out with the doctors, but you will have to go eventually. You need your ankle to be checked out!" My mom replied.

I sat in silence for the rest of the car ride, thinking about everything. Nationals, school, bullies, and especially the new kid. He was in two of my classes, math and science. I hope that we get to be lab partners! So far we are friends, I showed him around school and he really hit it off with my group of friends.

20 minutes of deep thought were interrupted as we entered the parking lot. I groaned because I was dreading pyramid. Last week I forgot a step in my trio and was too far stage left in the group dance.

"Afternoon Paige!" Abby chimed.

"You too Miss Abby..." I said awkwardly.

I was extremely confused because Abby is never this happy, especially to me! I walked into the den and took my sweatpants and jacket off and started stretching. After the rest of the team got here we went into studio A for pyramid.

"Alright! We had a great weekend at starpower!" Abby beamed.

"Now, pyramid! This week I'll be starting at the top." Abby stated.

Abby revealed the top spot to Maddie, I wasn't surprised. She got first in her solo, trio and looked great in the group dance!

"Second we have Chloe, you did good in the group and trio but slacked off on your solo. Third? At least you weren't second, because we all know what second is."

Whenever Abby does pyramid I always try to visualize who is where. I thought that either be Nia or Kenzie would be next because of their duet, but I was wrong.

"Paige. You shouldn't be here, you messed up in the group and trio, but you were in the winning numbers so you go with the trio."

Out of the corner of my eye I could see my mom roll her eyes. After me was Nia because her duet with Kenzie got one tenth of a point lower than my trio!

"Now Kenzie, why shouldn't you be up on the middle row with Nia? You got second in your duet with her, didn't pull my focus negatively or positively in the group dance. You are here because you were early on the music in the duet. You need to listen to the music like Maddie!"

I felt bad for Kenzie being compared to Maddie. I used to be compared to Brooke all the time, and I hated it.

"Next we have Brooke. Your standing back tuck in the group dance was great, but you are so miserable all the time, you need to be more excited to dance! Kendall you are here because you were only in the group, so not much to judge you on. Now you see another picture on the pyramid. We have a guest joining us this week so I figured why not put their picture up here! Maybe they will end up being a permanent member of the team, everybody's replaceable."

Now I realized why Abby was so happy this morning, she was getting a new student! Abby took off the sheet of paper and I almost fainted. Zack Torres, the new kid, is the guest this week! Zack came in and Nia, Chloe and I ran up and hugged him because we met him at school today.

"Now for assignments. This week we will be staying here in Pittsburgh for the Fire and Ice Competition. We have 2 solos, a duet and a group dance. The group dance is contemporary and it's titled Teacher's Pet. Zack will be the teacher and you girls all try to get his attention, all the girls will have an apple as a prop. The duet will be another contemporary routine for Zack and Paige called I've Got Your Back. Then solos are for Nia because you proved yourself in your duet and then for Kendall because you didn't really have a chance to dance last week. Nia your solo is a musical theater number and is called No One Is Alone, it's a bit darker than you're used to. Kendall your solo is Call Me and it's jazz."

I'm so excited! I have a duet with Zack! We spread apart and work on our left side first. This competition is going to be great!
