-December 16th-

I perched on the cafeteria wall, watching my classmates. There where some interesting conversations, including the annual sweetheart dance coming up in February. It was sunny, here in Florida, so, we didn't get any snow. Just then, my best, (and only) friend, Ashley, popped up behind me.

"Hey," I said, bored.

"Iris, cheer up. You have absolutely NO reason to be upset at the moment," Ashley blared, drawing some attention to us. Ashley looked a lot like Dove Cameron, except she had green eyes, and dirty blonde hair.

"I'm fine," I said.

"No, you're not. Spill," she looked me in the eye. The one thing that annoyed me about Ashley is that she was always right. No matter how hard I tried to cover up my hidden emotion, she'd find it, within seconds.

"Ash, I heard Bryce and Matthew talking about the sweetheart dance. I really want to go," I huffed. I was a simple person, wearing jean shorts and graphic tee shirts with strange comments like, Don't kill my vibe," with Oscar the grouch on it. Today, I decided was special, so I wore a yellow sundress with white strap up sandals. My makeup selection was glamorous, and perfect for a wall flower, like me. Tan eyeshadow, the lightest shade if pink blush imaginable, and clear lip gloss.

"I'm sure someone will ask you, and if not, me and you can go as friends, ok?" She smiled, like that would make me feel better.

"Thanks, but I'm sure Parker will ask you," Parker was Ashley's boyfriend. The class president, he had a high buzz throughout YCD.

YCD is the name of our school. Youth country day high school. Boring huh.

"Forgot about him," she said, acting clueless. We had only three classes out of six together. One as first period, one right before lunch, and one before last period. English, Science, and History. Then, the queen bee buzzed, (walked) info the cafeteria. Ella Dakota. She was the most popular girl in our grade, and, in her clique, she had Rachel, the dumb blonde with hardly any social life, and Karman, a self obsessed wannabe in lip gloss and platform Skechers. They called themselves the BIC's. Beautiful, important chicks.

"Hate to end our powwow, Ash, but I've gotta go," before I got an answer, she was halfway over to Parker, greeting him with total lip lock.

I walked to my locker, number 236, opened it, and got my gym uniform, and history notes and binder. Just then, Ashley's older brother, Colby, walked passed me.

"Hey beautiful," he said, then left. I brushed my bangs out of my green eyes. Had he just called me beautiful? Ya, Colby, Ash and I had been friends for years, but had he liked me all this time?
