"Hey beautiful," I said as I walked passed Iris. She brushed her blonde bangs out of her beautiful green eyes. I loved her. I wanted to date her. Marry her. But, we're only 17, so I can wait a little bit longer. Maybe when I turn eighteen next month, I can be a father. Who knows? I mean, I just broke up with my girlfriend, Kerri, and I had loved Iris for years now. Ever since we were in a closet together playing a different version of hide and seek when we were nine, I knew I loved her.
I caught up with my friend Alex.
"Hey man, what do you think of that Iris chick for you," he said, elbowing me twice.
"Ya man," I said. He didn't know I liked her, so I acted like I didn't.
"C'mon, lay her up with some of that Colby charm," he said, laughing.
"Alright," I replied, and walked away. Man she was beautiful. Her golden hair, to the length a little passed her shoulders, her perfect lips, green eyes, they all come together to make the most beautiful girl you can imagine. I found Iris again, sitting on the floor, back against the locker door, reading a book.
"Hey Colby," she said, looking up from her book.
"Hey, what are you reading?" I asked. She put her finger in the spot she was reading and showed me the cover.
"Insurgent, by Veronica Roth. She's one of my favourite authors, and this is the second book in her series, called Divergent. You'd like it," she beamed.
"You think so?" I asked, finally finding something we might have in common.
"Ya, you can borrow mine if you want," she questioned me.
"Ya, I'll swing by your place tonight and pick them up, and maybe you too?" Too fast, nice one Colby, you've blown it.
"Actually I'd love that," she said, smiling.
"Great, movie at seven? I heard Divergent is playing at seven, so I'll pick you up at six thirty," I flashed a smile.
"Ok," she replied. I stood up and walked away, reassuring myself that she might like me too, because she agreed to go, so, maybe something magical might happen. I called Alex from my cell, because I couldn't find him anywhere. "Hey man," he said.
"I've got a date," I said back, and I could feel him smiling through the phone.
"Yeah man," Alex said in his most exaggerated voice.
