After I called Colby, I ended the call and called Ashley.
"Oh my god Iris! I can't believe you survived!" She squealed.
"Of course I lived," I laughed.
"So, how'd it go?" She gushed.
"So well. He and I are going to the Winter Dance together on Friday even. I mean, it couldn't be more perfect," I replied.
"Anything worth my time for me to hear about?" She asked.
"Oh, well," I clicked my tongue.
"Oh, I see," she replied.
"Oh Ashley, I remember when you first went out with Parker," I gushed.
"Speaking of Parker," I could hear her phone buzz.
"Hold on Iris, can I call you back in 5?" She asked.
"Yup, bye," I hung up. I waited for Ashley to call back, and two minutes later, she did.
"Ok. So, where were we?" I asked. She was crying.
"Ashley, what's wrong?" I asked.
"It's Parker. He broke up with me," she bawled.
"Sh, Ashy, what did he say?" I blurted.
"Ash, we're not working. We're over," she cried.
"Oh, baby, he text dumped you? That's not cool!" I screeched.
"I know," she bawled continuously.
"Ash, I'll break up with Colby if you want, so you're not hearing about any relationships, I mean, I'll do anything for you, you're my best and only friend," I sighed.
"No no no! Jack has been asking me out for weeks now, so I'll take him!" She gushed. That's the thing I love about Ashley, she can move on from a tragic breakup right away. I love her.
"Ashley, can you please help me get a dress? I wanna impress him!" I exclaimed.
"Ya. I'll meet you tomorrow at Janie's Best Dresses at ten thirty. Ok girlie? I need a dress too, you know," she bounced.
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye bye," I said, and hung up. Ashley and I were finally going to the dance together liked we'd always dreamed. Oh, my, I was excited about the dance, that I couldn't even sleep.
-December 17th-
At nine thirty I woke up, showered, and was out of the house by nine forty five. I drove through Tim Hortons and ordered a coffee, and a blueberry muffin. I was early at the dress boutique, so I pulled out my book, An imperial affliction. About a girl named Anna who has colon cancer, and doesn't want to raise money for a cancer cure, but for kids that have cancer. The Dutch tulip man, and Anna's mom, and her hamster, all have no future. Anna dies.
Ashley walked in the door, as I finished chapter 24.
"Darling!" She said, in a fake British accent.
"Why hello," I played along with her.
"Shall we?" She gestured to the boutique sales rack. She tried on a blue floor length v cut at the knee dress, and looked at herself in the mirror.
"Does this dress make my butt look big?" She asked looking at hear rear end.
"God no!"I said, admiring her gorgeous figure. Just then, I turned my head, and saw THE DRESS. A strapless Vera Wang over one knee v cut, with a black belt.
"Ash," I gaped. She turned her head in my direction and her jaw dropped.
"Try. It. On," she stuttered.
"Ok," I stood up, picked up the dress, and grabbed the next fitting room. "Ok, most beautiful dress I've ever seen, look good with a bandeau," I said to myself. I walked out of the change room. It looked amazing on me, hugged me on all the right places, making me look very feminine.
"Iris, this is THE DRESS," she said.
"I know. And, it's on sale," I squealed. I loved this dress. Colby would love this dress.
"Only 49.99$" she said, running back into her fitting room.
"Let's pay, call our boys, and meet for lunch at Francois' French cuisine. Ok?" I asked.
"Perfect! I love this dress," she said. The lady packaged up our dresses and we headed out.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
"Colby, I found THE DRESS," I breathed into the phone.
"No," he sounded shocked.
"You will love it. I promise you," I said.
"Good. I got my tux too," he said.
"Yay, we'll look great at the dance. I love you," I said.
"You too babe, bye," he hung up. Today was perfect.
