Yale's P.o.V
No matter how hard or fast I hit the punching bag, I still couldn't get her out of my mind. Thoughts of her had occupied my mind all through the night and her face, that beautiful freckled face I had dreamt about so many times had haunted my sleep. It had been four long years and I still couldn't get over her and her betrayal. I still could clearly picture that night and how mad I had been. A few weeks after the incident, I had calmed down and had gone back to her apartment to give her back the money she had pridefully rejected, yeah Ben had told me everything, not leaving a single detail out. I hit harder, wishing the anguish I was feeling will go away, it still hurt like it was just yesterday. I had thought her to be pure, naive and all mine but I had judged her wrong. She had been worse than Lillian.
And seeing her again after all these years wasn't something I had anticipated, it just kind of happened. I couldn't believe my eyes when I catch a glimpse of her at the preschool with a kid, all happy and smiling. I had been tempted to get out of my car, and approach her but had restrained myself. She had easily moved on with her life like nothing had happened, like she hadn't torn me apart. She had no right to move on with her life, not whiles I was still stuck in the past.
Seeing her once had been enough but then I had to see her at the gala too. My blood had boiled over when I saw her peg that guy who in my opinion was too young and not good enough to be her husband. And I had been totally astounded when the Ruby Wilson, had called her her daughter. I still couldn't believe a naive and docile person like her was related to such an opinionated and confident woman like Ruby Wilson. Pieces of the puzzle were starting to fit together.
I let out a frustrated scream as I gave the bag one final punch before resting my head against it, trying to catch my breath. Why was I angry even about this? She meant nothing to me and had just been a means to an end. It was true I had started to like her but that had been nothing. I thought, trying to convince myself otherwise.
"Yale are you okay?" I heard Federica, who had been staying with me for the past four months appear out of no where ask, from across the room. She and her son, my nephew Nico had moved all the way here from Italy for a fresh start after her divorce and honestly, I was glad they were here. The house didn't feel empty and lonely anymore like I felt.
"Ilario?" She called out when I didn't answer her the first time.
"I'm fine Fede." I lifted my head from the bag and made my way to stand near the window, looking out at the setting sun. I was in a foul mood and didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment.
"I heard you scream...all the way from my room and that's upstairs. You are not fine. You have been cooped up in here the entire day. What's eating you up?" She asked making her way to stand by me with her arms folded across her chest.
"I said I'm fine, just leave me alone." I yelled at her and regretted it the moment I did.
None of this was her fault and I knew she only meant well and was concerned about me but I just wanted to be left alone.
"You can yell at me all you want but I'm not leaving until you tell me what's been bothering you, You have been much distant and cold than usual, and you have been brooding since Friday. I'm worried."
"Can you tell Ben to get the car ready. Thank you." I said to her placing a kiss on her cheeks before heading towards the door, taking off the bandages from my sore hands.
"Ilario!! Ilario!" I heard her call my name but I was already at the base of the stairs.
I had declined the dinner invitation earlier on when Ruby called. I wanted to keep my distance away from her, and her sudden outburst and actions had clearly showed she didn't want me anywhere near her. She had changed a lot, physically and behavior wise, that naive docile girl had been replaced by a bold and feisty woman and for some strange reason, it kinda turned me on. I unconsciously rubbed my left cheek where she had slapped, no woman had ever dared to lay a finger on me but she had had the guts to?
