❤︎Chapter 33: A Beautiful Springtime Is When We Reunite! [FINAL]

Momoka's POV

Tomomi: Why don't you come look for yourself?

"Yes!"

That was all of the confirmation I needed. I jump out of my seat after shouting out loud, interrupting the entire class. Everyone, including my teacher turns to look at me as I become the center of attention.

As if I could care less.

There were things on my mind that were much more important — like if I was far too out of shape to run as fast as I could to get outside and meet Tomomi!

I can hear my teacher shouting for me to give up my cellphone, but I don't listen. I run down the aisle and right passed her where she stands with her palm upward for me to drop my phone there. I neglect to do so and burst out of the classroom, nearly sliding into the wall just outside the door.

I find Reina and Tadashi in the same hallway ahead of me, running in my direction hand in hand. Their eyes are sparkling with emotion and they're completely out of breath as they slide to a stop before me.

"We came to get you as soon as we saw the text!" Reina slid the last 2 feet toward me and I placed my hands on her shoulders to steady her and prevent a collision. Beaming, I look back and forth between the both of them as joy begins to swell in my chest.

So it was true! I hadn't mistaken the hint Tomomi was giving me! He was really here!

"I can't believe it!" My voice wavers as the emotions swarming inside of me rise up behind my eyes to take on the form of tears. They pour down both my cheeks in two smooth streams, curving under my chin and eventually down my neck. I reach up to wipe them frantically.

My Tomomi is here. Finally here!

Over the years, he'd become more of a fan of surprises and mischief — taking risks, enjoying thrills. He'd never do anything like move back early unless he wanted it to have a lasting impact on all of us. As frustrating as his little tricks could be sometimes, I had to give him credit for craftiness.

This was one of the few times I was pleasantly surprised and caught off guard ( but in a good way).

We start to hurriedly make our way down to the first floor of the school and out the front doors. Along the way, our group of friends started to meet up with us so we could head out together. I was growing impatient by the time we reached our last stop in the building, however, and as soon as Mamoru stepped out of his classroom, I took off.

"Momoka, slow down!"

"At least wait for us!"

I didn't realize how far ahead of the others I was until I heard them calling me from a distance. I didn't bother to turn around, bursting through the front double doors and out into the school courtyard. Across the way, there was a cluster of cherry blossom trees who's flowers were in magnificent full bloom.

The largest tree, however, belonged to Tomomi and I. It stood tall, wide, and strong in the center of the grove, just waiting for me. I spot a tall, slender figure leaning against the tree from a distance and feel myself suck in a breath.

It was undoubtedly my Tomomi. He'd grown a couple of feet in height over the years, of course, and quite muscular, too — he seemed bigger every time I saw him! I had started growing in height as well when we both turned 16, which was a surprise, and for a while we were nearly the same height. But over Christmas break our junior year, he'd beaten me once again. And he didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.
