Maeva was back at the center of the headquarters with Tony, Bruce, and Steve, surrounded by employees who were busy with computers that had all abruptly crashed.

-So he doesn't have an energy source powerful enough to open the portal, recapitulated Steve.

Maeva spoke:

-Loki loves a spectacle, he'll be somewhere everyone can see what he's doing.

She didn't have time to finish as Tony started to leave.

-He's at STARK tower, I'll take care of it.

The armored man flew away to his tower while Nick Fury sent them after him to predict and contain the overflow from the impending fight.

A few blocks from the tower a big black hole appeared in the sky, the portal was open. The Chitauri descended from the sky and invaded the city. The group of heroes, the newly assembled Avengers, gathered and fought to fight them while Thor, who had freed himself, went to take care of Loki.

-Apparently there's a way to close the portal, said Tony, Dr. Selvig told us that we can close it with Loki's scepter.

-But how do we get it, he won't just give it to us of his own free will, started Maeva

-We need to distract him in order to successfully immobilize him and close the gate, finished Steve, Maeva, Tony and I will go up the tower.

They arrived quickly as Tony, using his armor, flew them to their destination.

They found themselves behind Thor, in front of Loki, which made him hesitate for a few moments when he noticed Maeva.

They moved away a few steps to develop their strategy. Tony spoke first:

-Maeva, you'll be the distraction. He's already rather distracted from your arrival, he's just throwing furtive glances at you. I don't know what's going on between you two but we have to make him jealous. Captain, to save America, you have to kiss Maeva.

-He's not stupid, he'll know that we're trying to distract him, intervened Maeva

-According to Thor, Loki is quickly jealous and jealousy is distracting. So now, for the safety of this country and this planet, kiss each other, I would've done it myself but I'm too old to make it realistic, even though technically, Rogers is older than me.

Steve stepped forward and apologized to Maeva before gently putting his lips against hers.

This action had the desired effect. For a few minutes Loki looked confused, in his eyes was a mixture of anger, jealousy and a little sadness. Thor took advantage of this moment of weakness to put Loki on the ground and immobilize him with his hammer. The scepter fell to the ground and Tony picked it up and hastened to the machine to close the gate and stop the arrival of more of the Chitauri.

Maeva, who had quickly moved away from Steve, approached Thor who was still beside Loki and sat down next to him so she could observe the different emotions that poured into the eyes of the god of mischief.

-Maeva, we're going to need you on the street, there's a lot of Chitauri left to kill, Steve tells her.

Thor helped her up and said:

-I'll join you when Tony finishes with the portal

By the time they started to go down, Tony had closed the gate and all the remaining Chitauri fell to the ground. The Avengers who were downstairs climbed back to the top of the tower. Tony gave the scepter to Maeva and Thor picked up his hammer while paying close attention to Loki, making sure he wasn't about to run away.

Each of the Avengers faced Loki and pointed their weapons at him. He didn't move but wore a smirk.

Maeva left seeing that he was secure. She still had the scepter in her hand when she felt a hand resting on her shoulder. She turned around and brandished the scepter as if it were a weapon.

-Be careful, I'm not your enemy, said Steve, his hands held up to show her that he didn't have any weapons.

She lowered the scepter and asked him:

-What's the matter?

-I came to apologize, it was necessary otherwise I would not have done it.

-No, it's useless, we could've done it differently. I hate being used, I could've managed that.

Maeva was now filled with a rage that was steadily increasing. She felt her body warm up and all eyes turned to her, which only intensified her anger.

-Pay attention to her hands, don't touch her, Loki said, I will need my hands to help her.

Thor untied his hands and let him approach the girl who was watching her hands as flames came out of them. Everyone circled around her, worried.

-Maeva, you have to calm down, you could hurt someone.

-I can't do it Loki, I've never done this before. I don't want to hurt anyone but these flames came out against my will.

Loki approached Maeva who in turn stepped back.

-Don't come near me, I could hurt you.

-Give me your hands. I know what I'm doing, I've already experienced it.

Loki held out his hands and snapped his fingers, flames were present at his fingertips. The flames weakened but the anger was still present in Maeva. Finally, to calm her down, Loki whispered in her ear:-Breathe. Remember, when we were younger, you always helped me calm down. Today it's my turn to help you, even if I'm not as good at it as you.

-Thank you, Loki. You're better than you think.

He pulled away and let go of her hands with a different smile, a real smile of joy, which disappeared quickly as Thor handcuffed him.

-It is time for us to return to Asgard and for Loki to receive his sanction. I hope we will not have to return too soon.

With the help of Tesseract, Thor, Maeva and Loki returned in an instant to the palace.
