Tj's POV:
After what Monte told me about his family, I can't stop thinking I should have had that life, not him. My whole life, I've been nurtured, cared for, yet taught how to survive. To be tough. To fight if need be. I've had it pretty easy in life. I wish I hadn't, though. Hearing what Monte had been through, I wish we could switch childhoods. I would be the abused one, while he grew up cared for, accepted and confident.
"Monte, I-" I began, but quickly stop myself as I knew what I was about to say wasn't the best thing for the situation. I'm sorry.
"It's okay, Tj." Monte says, still looking down. I feel tears start to run down my face at the thought of everything Monte had just told me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a black, brown and white mess. I turn my head to see a dog. "Hey, Zira." Monte says in a higher pitched tone as the dog walked closer. "Hey, baby. Tj, this is Zira."
"She's gorgeous!" I reply, letting Zira sniff my hand before reaching out to pet her soft fur. "American Shepherd?"
"Yep!" Monte smiled out. "She was at the shelter I volunteered at for a week. It was the end of her last day and they were gonna put her down, but I said, nope!"
"Now why would they put down such a sweetie like you, huh?"
"Because she was already five years old and nobody seemed to want her."
"Aw, poor girl. I'm glad you were able to save her!"
"Me too."
"I do believe this is the first time you actually smiled in ages, Monte." I turn around to see Craig standing in the doorway. "I'm glad to see you happy. Come on, guys. Dinner's almost ready, we just gotta get the lasagne out of the oven."

Monte's POV:
It's Christmas Eve and I can't wait to see the look on Craig's face when he sees what I got him. I know he's super into Harry Potter, so I thought I'd get him a Deathly Hallows pendant. If you don't know what that looks like, it's kind of a triangular eye with a line going down the middle.
"Monte," Craig begins, walking into our bedroom. "I wanted to wait until tomorrow morning to tell you, but I can't." Is he dieing? Oh God, he's breaking up with me, isn't he? "Here." Craig hands me an envelope. I look at him, confused. "Open it."
"Okay." I reply, opening the already ripped envelope and pulling out the letter it contained.
Dear Mabbitt Family,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as suitable adoptive parents. We are also pleased to let you know that a young woman by the name of Tiffany has already chosen you to care for her child. You may come and see her at our office on Dec. 27th, 2012. Have a wonderful holiday!
Sincerely,
Adoption agent, Amanda Jones
"Oh my God!" I cry as I began to read the letter. Not only were we approved for adopting, but we have a little baby on the way, too! "Craig!" I pull my soon to be husband into a tight hug, crying into his shoulder. "We're gonna have a baby!"
