A Surprise

"Oh, Rose. I'm finally back! There is so much you missed," the old lady walked in, strangely without any suitcases or bags, but her butler behind her seemed to be struggling with her luggage.

"Hello, grandmother. How was your voyage around the world?"

Rose's grandma was now lying down on the sofa, turning on the T.V, "Oh. It was excellent. Rather excellent indeed. I visited around fifty countries."

"Oh, well why are you back so early? I thought fifty countries would take well over five years."

"Do I sense that you are not happy I'm back?" She was now staring straight through Rose's eyes, her ski glasses adding on to the creepiness.

"No, grandma, I just-" Rose was now stepping back, almost falling into the wall behind her.

"You just are secretive, I see. Well, those secrets will be no more. It is very early, Rose. Just gone three. I will give you a  few more hours to sleep, then you shall be up at six 'o' clock, no later."

Rose didn't push her luck; she ran upstairs, not daring to glance behind her and launched herself on her bed, falling to sleep only minutes later.

"ROSE, GET UP NOW THIS INSTANT!" Rose tried to ignore these shouts from her grandma and lay there, silent and still.

"ROSE, WHAT DID I SAY?! I'M COMING INTO YOUR ROOM IF YOU DON'T COME TO ME." At this sentence, Rose instantly sprang up from her bed and propelled herself towards her grandmother, but she soon realised her mistake; in the tips of her grandmother's fingers she held a pair of men's knickers, held far away from her, "These, I presume are not yours?" Rose just shook her head. "Well, did you invite a boy over without my permission?"

"It was just for a night," Rose blurted out, but her grandma just raised her eyebrows at her, so Rose added, "Ok, maybe a few months, but he had nowhere to go! His father was abusive." Her grandma looked inquisitively at her, before asking, "Did you ever think about getting hold of any other services who could have given him a new home? New foster parents?"

"N-n-no."

"Rose, I will only ever ask you this question once, but could you please tell me what this is?" She then picked up Rose's positive pregnancy test. "Do you recognise it?"

"N-no. It's not mine. It must be someone else's."

"So, you're telling me you invited many other people over and they felt the need to take a pregnancy test right here?" Instantly Rose burst into tears, burying her head in her grandmother's arms. "I'm sorry, it was a mistake. It all happened so fast. There was a party and - and - and I drank a bit from your alcohol cupboard. Sorry! And then, and then." She showed a softer side as she listened, raking her fingers through her hair, "I understand, Rose, but I have noticed the many bottles of alcohol around the house. I will be confiscating them and we will get you back to a normal schedule. I will also have to meet this boy soon. Where is he?"

"I don't know. He - he left."
