Daniel

I held Selena tightly as the sun rose. I hated the day time because that's when we'd fight the most. She moves in my arms but soon cuddles back into my chest, still asleep. "I love you." I whisper as I kiss her gently on her forehead. Soon enough, her eyes flutter open and she moves out of my arms. She sits up at the edge of the bed and stares at the wall. "Baby, I just can't do this." She says and I sit up, confused at what she meant.

"Can't do what?... You came back.. For me?.. Right?" I struggled getting my words out picking the right ones to try to keep her here with me. She sighs heavily and says, "I can't be with you anymore. All of this abuse; Daniel it's not healthy! And when you try to make up for it, baby, it's never enough. You have broken me to the point that I've convinced myself that every man out there will be like you, and that's fucking ridiculous. Maybe one day I'll find who's right for me, but for right now... I just want to make it on my own." I pulled her into my embrace looking down at her confused. "Don't do this.. What about the kids? They need their mother in their life."

"I'm taking the kids with me."

She moved from my arms and put her clothes back onto her bare body. I watched as she did so. "So that's it? We can't try to make this work?" I spoke as she pulled her hair into a ponytail. "We've been trying to make things work for too long. When things go good, something just has to come up. I can never be right to you. I've remained faithful our whole relationship but you.... Never mind. This is goodbye Daniel. For real this time." She turns around and leaves the room starting to walk downstairs and I of course, chase after her. I grabbed her waist and kissed at her neck. "I need you."

She pushes me off her and rushes outside, getting into her car. She glances at me tears falling down her face, then she speeds off. She'll be going to Daisha's house...

I run upstairs and put on something fast then run out to my car speeding to catch her. I drive up to the house and see Selena's car out front. I rush inside seeing her talking to the kids. But when she saw me, I knew she wouldn't be staying for long. "Daddy!" Serenity and Danny yell in unison as they ran up to me, but my eyes remained on Selena. "Don't do this..." I said and Selena looked away from me. She soon got up from the couch and walked past me out the door, telling the kids to come on. They followed directions and I watched them climb into the car.

I watched her drive off and I was done trying to stop her. I knew she was gone.... Gone for good.

Selena

Two hours have passed in the car as I was driving back to my home. The kids were asleep and the radio was playing discreetly. It was hard to keep a smile on my face knowing my kids would grow up here on out without a father. That's the least I could give them. I prayed that I would find someone that I could honestly trust and hoped to find a father figure for my children but it seems like my prayers weren't getting across. I lost hope.

"I want daddy." Danny says rubbing his eyes as he squirms in his car seat. "I know sweetie, but you won't be seeing daddy for a long time." I replied hoping I wouldn't have to go into detail. He instantly started crying, waking Serenity up and I exited the highway and stopped at a gas station. I got out of the car and walked to Danny's side and unbuckled him from the car seat, bringing him into my arms for comfort. "Shhhh, baby stop crying." I pleaded but his crying only got louder. "I WANT MY DADDY!" He yells.

I soon started crying as Serenity stared at the both of us.

(Seven months later)

"Let's go! You guys can't be late to school again!" I yelled putting the kids lunches in their backpacks. They both run into the kitchen, taking their bags from my hold. I smiled looking down at them. "Ready?" I said and they nod walking towards the front door. I open it for them and they wait as I locked the door behind me. I grab their hands and we start walking to my car.

"Mommy, what are we having for dinner?" Serenity asks as I start driving them to school. "Hmm..." I tapped my chin pretending to think. "How about pizza?" I continued and they both smile. "Yes!" Danny says loudly. I laugh and pull up to the private school I enrolled them in recently and helped them out of the car. I walked them inside and checked them in in the office. "Bye sweetie." I spoke kissing Serenity on the cheek. She walks off with a teacher and Danny grabs onto my leg crying loudly. "I DONT WANNA GO!!!" He yells causing a scene. I pick him up and tickle him trying to calm him down. "I'll be back to pick you up later baby boy." I spoke giving him kisses all over his face. He nods and gives me a wet kiss on my cheek then I put him down allowing him to wander off with his teacher.

Sitting at work, organizing files from different patients was starting to get old. All of my clients were seeming to be doing okay because I haven't been called by then for the past half an hour. "Selena, we need those files done before you leave today." James, one of our anesthesiologists says. I sigh looking at the tall stack of papers sitting on my desk. The phone starts ringing and I lazily pick it up.

"Hello?" I spoke simply laying my head on my desk. "You have a visitor Selena." Anna says from the front desk. I sigh and hang up the phone. But then it hit me. I don't know anyone outside of work... I jump up and start walking towards the elevator trying to figure out who this might be. I reach the ground floor and start walking towards the lobby seeing someone who looked awful familiar but I could only see his back because he was looking at a sculpture. I approached him and tapped his shoulder, and he turns around instantly.

"Selena..." He spoke pulling me into a hug. This was all too familiar. My eyes were wide open and I found it hard to breathe as his arms wandered down to my waist. "I missed you so much." He whispers making chills glide down my back. "Let me take you to lunch.. Baby."

"O-okay."
