Natasha woke up at the sight of Daisy peering over the same brown clipboard from yesterday. "Ahh miss bloom your awake" she said with a smile that could make the sun shine brighter. Natasha only replied with a "uh" before coughing on her own saliva. She turned bright red but to her surprise Daisy giggled and walked forward.
"Are you ok after yesterday?" Daisy continued, checking Natasha's leg for signs of distress or wounding. "Those people don't have any consideration for my patients. Barging into there rooms like they run the shop, scaring my patience then walking back to safety in there stupid police department"
"No I'm fine just a bit ... shocked" Natasha looked down at her intertwining fingers and sighed. "It probably sound stupid" Daisy walked forward and continued to tidy the room. First the bed side table and now she was onto fixing the plain white sheets that Natasha slept in.
"No honestly it's fine. They always come in here and let me tell you it's never good news". She let a small chuckle out but hide it under the clip board realising that it probably wasn't the best of times to laugh. "Do you want to tell me what's happened?" Daisy asked sitting down on the chair beside Natasha's bed.
"I'm sorry it is confidential" Natasha said trailing off. "Which is exactly why I'll tell you!" Natasha lent forward beckoned Daisy forward like an old grandma calling her grand children so she can tell them stories of the war. Daisy awkwardly pulled the chair closer to the bed and resumed her sitting position. "One if my ex-boyfriends was found dead. He was shot 13 times in the back."
"Oh my god!" Daisy stood up and wrapped her arms around Natasha which took her by surprise.
"No it's fine honestly. I'm ok it was like in collage" Natasha muttered while being squished to death by Daisy. Finally Daisy let her go and they both stared at each other until Daisy declared that she had to go and see another patient. Soon, Natasha was alone in the room and scared. With out Daisy or even Heather she felt vulnerable; she felt as though she could be attacked or even worse and no one would notice. What would happen if I'm killed? Natasha thought. Sure Heather would be upset but she's strong and could get over it and Daisy would move on. I'm just another patient that she lost to something and couldn't couldn't control.
Finally the day arrived for Natasha to be released. When she slowly walked out of her room on crutches, she noticed Lucas awkwardly standing at the side of the receptionist. They stared at each other from opposite sides of the room but Natasha felt obliged to walk over and see how he was. "Soo how are you?" Natasha asked while slowly sitting down on a chair to rest her legs.
"I'm ok" the answer was short but not sweet. It pained Natasha to think that Lucas actually has his life together unlike her who was a complete mess. "Must have been boring here being stuck in this place for 3 days straight" Lucas laughed trying to break the tension but it seeing as talking only made it worse he stayed quite. Natasha contemplated telling him about Alex but in the end she didn't, Natasha knew he would get all sympathetic which would make this meeting even worse.
"Well I have to go." Natasha said while pointing at Heather who was busy filling out Natasha's leaving forms. "Yeh we have to go do some bits and bobs"
"Oh yeh sure, I was going to say I have to..." Lucas paused trying to think of a valid excuse. "doctor's appointment" he finished his excuse but suddenly winced as he realised what he had said. Natasha didn't know weather it was the drugs she was in the just the sight of him but she intended to fight back.
"Oh really a doctors appointment. What time" Natasha leaned forward waiting for an answer.
"1:30" Lucas quickly replied and looked at the clock next to him. The time read 12:00 and Lucas shut his eyes trying to come up with a follow up excuse . "But I'm not going to this doctors"
"Where"
"Somewhere else. You won't know it"
"Try me" Natasha was now standing up feeling as strong as ever.
"God damn it Nat!" Lucas yelled which warned him a few harsh glares from the nurses and patient. "I came to see you because I love you."
"No you don't" Natasha said looking down at her feet. She glanced back up again "if you loved me you would help me pursue my dreams. If you love me you wouldn't mind being on your own for a bit so I could actually work on becoming a lawyer. It's been a long road and you haven't been there for any of it." With that Natasha hopped away with her crutches and walked out of the hospital with Heather.
