Part 23 - Changes
"Be patient. The best ending is for the righteous."
Surah Hud, verse 49
As the weeks moved into months and the couple become assured that the other loved them and would not leave them in a drop of a pin, Fadiyah found herself venturing out of the house more comfortably and more at ease. She often volunteered to do the shopping and to get the things that Faraaz would need for his therapy.
On a bright and warm afternoon, nearing the month of December, Fadiyah found herself in a furniture store. It was a home décor place and as much as she loved their house, she wanted to make small changes. As a start, she wanted to decorate the bathrooms. The bathrooms were beautiful and pristine, but it did not have that homely and welcoming feel to it that Fadiyah wanted it to give off.
To remedy that, she went and bought some towel sets and matching bathroom mats. Each bathroom in the house got its own colour scheme. Where Fadiyah went and changed the tiny decorations that the bathrooms had. She had purchased three different colours, which knew wouldn't put all the men in a frenzy: mint, turquoise and grey. All of the bathrooms were white marble, so she knew giving it colour would be breathing life into the little bathrooms.
For the bathroom that Faraaz was using, she wanted it to be in grey, but then decided against it because she felt it would make him feel depressed, or when he was in a depressive state, it would only make him worse. Instead, she chose turquoise.
When she got home, she greeted them all excitedly and rushed to the bathrooms to decorate it to her desires. In the guest bathroom, she put out three grey guest bath towels, and rolled them into miniature swiss rolls and placed them on the shelf. Within minutes, she had decorated the bathroom to her desires. Miniature cactus on one window sill, charcoal grey bathroom floor mats, a mat around the toilet and charcoal grey fading to grey crystal toothbrush and toothpaste jars.
Each bathroom was redecorated similarly, except for Faraaz's bathroom. Around his huge bathtub, she bought several different bath salts in decorated bottles, each one with a different purpose; to relax, to destress, to soothe. Fadiyah even went and bought scented candles so that it added to the experience of relaxing Faraaz.
"What did you just do in there for so long?" Jacob teased her as she left the bathroom on the second floor.
With a jump, Fadiyah faced him with accusing brown eyes. "You scared me, you evil man!" she said with a hand on her heart.
He chuckled. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!"
She smiled warmly at him and together they walked into Faraaz's room as they spoke. "I went shopping," she said to him.
"I think we all noticed those mountains of shopping bags you brought into the house," he commented teasingly.
"I know," she blushed. "I went overboard."
"Are you trying to curb my wife's spending?" Faraaz commented as they walked in.
As usual, Fadiyah went to greet him with a kiss on his forehead, but he grabbed hold of her hand and pulled her to sit on the bed.
"No, not at all," Jacob said with a stern salute. "I just wanted her to buy me a boat before she makes you bankrupt!"
"But why would I do that? I would buy you a boat and a helicopter!" Fadiyah laughed as she kicked off her shoes and pulled her legs onto the bed.
Jacob rolled his eyes at the couple. "Well, glad to know you are on my side, Fads! But it is time for your husband's meds. Are you gonna stay for it?"
