—TWO MONTHS AGO—

"Ms. Hanson..." The prosecutor strolls over to me for the tenth time. My thighs clench with my hands in between. Everyone in the courtroom stares at me in silence.

"You haven't yet told us the key element to this story... Why did you murder senior Kim?"

My eyes stay glued to my lap, as they've been the entire hearing. I tighten my jaw and blink rapidly to block out the temptation of tears.

"...He was killing my best friend's mother."

"This best friend you refer to is Kim's son, right? Kim Taehyung? How did the two of you meet?"

"Dog park. He had a dog called Yeontan, I had one called Margo."

"And you were kids at the time... Did Taehyung know about the altercation?"

Just the thought of Taehyung is enough to bring me to vulnerability. I feel my waterline get heavy, but I instantly shut my eyes and swallow. "No."

I can sense the judge's eyes piercing at me from the corner of my eye. The prosecutor removes his glasses and pinches them between his teeth with a hand in his pocket.

"Now, forgive me for my doubts, but I think everyone in this room can agree when I say it's awfully hard to believe a seven-year-old girl could have been capable of murdering people of such status. Especially when there's no hard evidence proving you to have any relation with the two. Are you sure you're not covering up for any—"

"I can prove it." My chin finally rises.

I feel my nerves build up again as my eyes wander the audience of eyes. With a deep inhale I elaborate,

"When I was arrested, I had a key on me. That was the key to the side door of the mansion. I can tell you details of the murder nobody knows except the forensic team who captured the crime scene ten years ago."

The prosecutor's eyebrows raise at my boldness, his head turning to the judge and waiting for approval. He then lays out his palm, signally me to continue.

"Senior Kim was wearing a white shirt and grey trousers. His wife, a sweater dress, tights and sandals. When I came in I was holding a strawberry cupcake, but I threw it down when I saw what Kim was doing and it landed behind the island counter. I then grabbed a 1/2 litre bottle of brewmeister from the counter by the wall... and... and then I stabbed him." I swallow again. "If you check the evidence locker and photos, everything I said is accurate. I had no help, it was all me. Only I know this."

The eyes of the courtroom narrow on me more sharply. I feel another tear building in my eye, but I manage to hold it back behind tight lips.

"And what about Sergio Pennyworth? Lim Carmine? What happened there?"

"Lim Carmine deserved to die. He was shipping out a drug called krokodil that was killing thousands. And Sergio... He helped me get away with senior Kim's murder, but he ended up being more corrupt than I thought."

"So you killed him." He then flicks through papers, "Lim Jaebum has also been missing for weeks. You told our team you were kidnapped by the prince of crime on two occasions. Are we to believe you killed him as well?"

"I... I probably did."

The prosecutor hums, nodding at his feet before perking up to the judge. "No more questions your honor." He bows and returns to his seat.
