There's always something extra hilarious about debating with a homophobe/transphobe/queerphobe and dealing with their inability to just admit they hate queer people. And then there's that inevitable moment wherein I can only imagine what's going through their heads:
"Huh. I've said a lot of truly nasty things over the course of this debate. I've threatened hellfire. Said queer people are perverts. Had very explicit daydreams about what they do in the bedroom. But man. I'm supposed to be a Christian. How do I salvage my nasty reputation? Oh, wait, I got it!"
And then they say it, their final trump card, their saving grace:
"Honestly, I have gay friends."
Every homophobe. Every time. Without fail.
And yet somehow despite all these homophobes having all these gay friends, I've yet to meet a single queer and/or LGBTQ+ person who is actually friends with homophobes. How strange.
It's almost like . . . these Christians are lying or something?
Weird, right?
