As I carefully made my way towards the cabin, I saw someone entering it. I moved a bit faster, wondering who it was and if he or she would let me stay there for at least one night. As I was about to knock, the door opened revealing one of my classmates.

"Katherine? What are you doing here, shouldn't you be in school?"

My classmate asked, I never actually got his name but I knew that he was in all of my classes.

"I ran away from home, what's your excuse?"

I said looking down, remembering something from my past.

FLASHBACK:

I'm sneaking through the halls. my step mom and dad are arguing in their room.

"Do you wanna lose me too?!"

My step mom yelled, causing dad to hesitate. I'm guessing that he is remembering my mom, I thought.

"No, I won't let that happen!"

Dad yelled back, bringing me back to reality, and I continue listening to what they are saying.

"It will if you don't listen to what I'm trying to tell you!"

My step mom hollered back, causing them both to go silent. I walked closer to their room as they stop yelling, only to hear inaudible mumbling. So I turned around a few minutes later and heads back to my room with pop-tarts in my hand.

Everything will be back to normal in the morning, not like they would apologize for keeping me up with their fighting. Why start caring about me now? Dad hates me and my step mom ignores me. They're such "amazing" parents, I can leave home and come back whenever and they wouldn't care. I want to leave and never ever come back. I thought to my self, as I fell asleep only to be woken up a few moments later by my alarm.

:End Flashback

As my flashback ended, I saw my classmate waving his hand in front of my face.

"Uh, hello? Earth to Katherine? Could you float back down from space? Hello you okay? I asked why you ran away and you spaced."

He called, making me jump which scared him.

"Oh uh sorry, I was remembering something. I ran away because of the way my dad and step mom treated me."

I answered, as he put his hand down by his side.

"Oh, I see. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. Did you bring your school supplies? Oh wait, today was our last day. Of course you didn't bring it."

He asked, then answered his own question. I smiled and pulled out the box of pop-tarts as if they were diamonds.

"But I brought these with me."

I said still smiling, as he was eyeing the pop-tarts as if they were going to vanish.

"I'll bring you to a place you can stay if you give me half of whatever is left."

My classmate said, causing me to raise an eyebrow then count how many pop-tarts were left. Seeing that the box was nearly full, I nodded slightly.

"If that's all it will take to have a place to stay, then you've got yourself a deal."

I gave half of the pop-tart to my classmate, letting him count them. When he finished he motioned his head for me to follow, so I followed him as he walked away from the cabin and deeper into the woods.
