The snow grows more intense as the terrors of Quinnmas continue to unfold. It blows with an intense fury, as if it knows the judgement being placed on those it surrounds.
Hailie awoke to her Christmas lights blaring in her face. She thought she turned them off before she went to bed. Maybe not. She walked out to her living room, where no one was present. The tree was dimly lit, and no other lights were on. The snow was affecting their electricity. Damn. A curious look crossed her face as she looked at the tree. It felt...darker than before. And that was off putting. She looked up on the ceiling and saw what looked like mistletoe hanging directly above it. Odd how it was directly over the tree like that.
Did her mom put it there? Or was it Aaron? Oh well. Not too big of a deal. But maybe it shouldn't be directly over the tree. She couldn't reach that high, so she would have to get the small ladder they owned. She got it out of the pantry and pulled it out, setting it towards the tree. She reached the mistletoe and pulled it off. Everything seemed fine, until she saw the tree start to shake. She didn't even have enough time to react, as when she took the mistletoe down, she was swarmed with a multitude of black shadows coming from the tree. They surrounded her in a frenzy, causing her to fall to the floor, screaming. She was then followed by the Christmas tree, which fell right on top of her. Ornaments smashed and cracked, and those shadows screeched hysterically before flying up the chimney. Where those bats? Hailie hoped so. But she could only hope enough before she blacked out.
Her mom found her later that day, or at least, the tree. It was on the floor, completely decimated. As if a wild animal came in and clawed it to pieces. Hailie was nowhere to be found.
The only thing that survived was the mistletoe, which hung directly over the destroyed tree.
