Tin's POV
I almost lost my energy going up and down the stairs, attending to my mom and to my dad as they tried to recover from the shock of my bringing Can into my room, and having to deal with Can's mom and dad.
I apologized to my parents and promised them that Can and I would keep our sounds to the minimum.
"What sounds are you talking about???" my dad demanded to know.
"I mean...I mean..." what did I mean?
I had to think carefully what to answer to my dad.
"I mean, if we are playing some video games, we will try not to be too noisy," I said.
I was starting to congratulate myself for thinking of a good answer, when I noticed the expression on my dad's face that seemed to say, "who are you trying to fool?"
I bowed my head and said, "I'm sorry, dad, mom, I will try not to give you any more problems for the rest of the night."
"What do you mean by 'for the rest of the night'?"
Shit, my dad is so hard to please.
"I mean, tomorrow is another day, right?"
My father looked at me with a very displeased look.
Shit, I gave the wrong answer again! It was because my mind was not really focused on talking to my dad. My mind was upstairs with Can who was waiting for me to join him.
"Can I be excused now, dad? Mom?" I asked. I was almost pleading.
My parents sighed simultaneously.
"Whatever you do tonight, Tin, please do not give my most valuable employee who happens to be Cantaloupe's father, a reason to cut his ties with me. We need him badly in our company business, do you understand?"
"Yes, father," I replied, with my fingers crossed behind my back.
"Okay, you may go upstairs now, Tin," said my dad.
I sprinted up the stairs, taking the steps two at a time.
"And, Tin," he said, just before I reached the top of the stairs, "don't leave any bruises on Can. His father will kill you and me if he finds any bruises on him."
"I will be kind and gentle, dad," I said, my fingers were again crossed behind my back.
"What took you so long?" Can demanded as soon as I entered the bedroom.
"Shit, Can, I just finished getting interrogated by Dad, now I'm getting interrogated by you! I'm just ready to lose my mind!!!"
"I'm sorry, Tin," said Can, "it's just that I was starting to get worried that your parents might have punished you by isolating you in another room."
"No," I said, "on the contrary, my dad was actually giving me his blessings, but he told me to just be very careful."
"Be very careful about what?" asked Can.
"Umm...umm..." I felt trapped. How was I going to answer Can's question without scaring the heck out of him.
"...to be very careful about keeping all the doors and windows locked before going to sleep."
"But isn't that the responsibility of your head servant?"
Shit, Can was such a smart kid. My first impression of him being a slow student had been so off the mark.
