My dad wanted me to join him at work today so I could understand how the family business was run. He promised that I would take it over and be in charge of the whole company when he retired. Running the family business was something I had been training to do since I was young. I was sent to the best schools in the country where I received numerous degrees including business management and law (specialising in corporate law). You could say that becoming the owner of Calore industries is what I was born to do. My dad certainly saw it that way as he took every opportunity to prepare me for the day I would take control.

Personally, I believed that Maven, my younger brother, was more equipped to take over the family business because he was naturally more corporately minded than I. However, it was tradition that the eldest child would inherit the business, just like my father had from his father. This meant that Maven could not run the business instead of me, as my father insisted that tradition must be upheld.

Unfortunately, the situation had made mine and Maven relationship strained and I often thought he felt jealous of the power I would inherit. It also didn't help when his mother, my stepmother, would control Maven and make him believe I did not care about him and his ambitions. The rivalry was so bad that we hardly spoke anymore despite the fact I had reached out to him many times. He seemed to become even more closed off after the death of his friend Thomas. Now he only listened to his mother and her toxic lies, no wonder he hated me.

Many say that Elara killed my mother because she resented my parents loving relationship. I originally dismissed the rumours about my stepmother but recently I have been contemplating them and now I am unsure if they are true or not.

I carried on going along the pavement when I felt someone roughly push me from behind. I turned round ready to face my attacker and yell at them for nearly pushing me over, but stopped immediately when I saw a blur of blue as a car hit a small girl who stood where I had just been walking. I then realised the girl had saved me by shoving me to the side so I wouldn't get hit. Shocked by the possibility of what could have happened to me I was frozen to the spot until I saw the girl's lifeless body on the ground.

I ran over to the girl to try and help, but her eyes closed as I hovered over her body. Panicking I shouted at passers by to phone for an ambulance as I tried to check to see if she was still alive.

When I reached down to press my fingers to her neck to check for a pulse I noticed the the shallow rise and fall of her chest. I let out a shakey breath and continued to breath because I had momentarily forgotten to, due to the fear I had for the life of a stranger. I should have found it odd that I was so worried about the girl since I'd only just met her, and yet somehow my concern for her was instinctive. I was suddenly very protective of her.

When the ambulance arrived the paramedics rushed over and began to inject her with what I'm guessing was some sort of pain relief. I refused to leave her and joined her in the back of the ambulance. She still hasn't woken up and she had gone extremely pale due to the blood loss from her head injury.

"Will she be okay?" I asked the paramedic who was staring at the heart monitor in confusion. The only answer I received was from the machine frantically beeping.

"She's tachycardic" shouted the the paramedic to the driver. I don't know what that means or what to do to help as the paramedic searched for equipment to save her. The paramedic lifted her shirt and placed patches on her chest and then shocked her with the electric paddles. I sat there nervously waited for the monitor to stop bleeping erratically. Finally, her heartbeat slowed down and I sighed in relief.

"W-what happened? Is she alright?" I stuttered to the paramedic as i could hardly talk I was so scared.

"For now she is but we need to get her to hospital as soon as possible, otherwise she could become tachycardic again and I might not be able to restore her heartbeat to sinus rhythm " the paramedic informed me.

She had to be alright, she just had to be. It was all my fault that she was in this state. I had been careless and was not looking where I was going. I glanced down at the girl on the bed, she seemed so helpless. I noticed her fading grey ends that seemed to seep the light out of her brunette hair. She was still beautiful despite the signs of the hard life she must have. Who was she and why would she save my life?
