Youre full of it Lacole, Casey said as he paced her living room floor. He glanced back and forth from her to the door. He really wanted to believe her now, but he knew better. There was a reason she had come out of the blue after a few weeks of them not talking to say she was now ready for what Casey proposed to her nearly four months ago; an actual relationship.
I was serious when I said it, Case, you just too big headed to see I wasnt playing, Lacole said, countering Caseys bravado with her own. Just cause I wasnt ready when you were!
You caused all of this, not me!
His closing argument fell onto stiff walls as the heat of the room rose to their faces. The murmur of the television from her bedroom down the hall peaked through the silence as Lacey pushed her back against the pastel purple wall. She could hear Casey breathing from across the room but she was sure she didnt want to see the cold stare she felt against her skin.
She pushed the dark bushel of black curls from her face, only to have it fall around her hand before she let it go. Lacey opened her mouth to end the confrontation but whimpered as pain shot through her throat. She grabbed at her neck, gently rubbing where his hand had pushed against it.
He hadnt hit her, but he was close this time.
She couldnt even say that through the brink of their existence, that through the whole Lacole and Casey deal, she couldnt see this coming. They clashed from the beginning. She knew it was a bad idea.
Let yourself out.
Case groaned before pushing past Lacey back into her room. She stayed put against the wall as he collected his things and slammed her front door behind him. Letting out a breath she didnt know she was holding, Lacey slid down the floor and cried. Her television had gone silent so she knew the receiver had turned off. A buzz in the area alerted her attention to the coffee table, where her phone lit up. It vibrated a few times before she shook her head, removing the tears that were still falling as his ringtone blared.
If I go on my way without you, whoa, where would I go? Set sail with me. Misty lady, set my spirit free. New love to find and even though Id leave another behind, Ill always, come back to you.
