Case groaned, running his hand down his face as he sat up on his cousin's couch. The last few weeks had been terrible for him but he was looking forward to going back to school. A few days before Christmas, he and his mom had a really big fight and she ended up putting him out. He would have just gone back down to school but he wasn't allowed in his dorm until a few days before classes started.

She had been trying to get him to change his major to engineering. Even went as far as to call his advisor and ask how that would work with the classes he was taking now. He hadn't paid it much attention until she began to tell him since he was still in general education classes, he had time to do the right thing.

He hadn't meant to argue with her, but he was tired of her trying to plan his future. He wouldn't mind being an engineer at a radio station, but the technical side of things wasn't calling him. He wanted to produce radio shows, maybe even music one day. His mother didn't understand that.

So he was laid up at his cousin's house, babysitting her kids while she was at work for free room and board. She even bought him a plane ticket back to Alabama since his mom claimed she wasn't going to do it. He thanked God for scholarships and financial aid. The way she was acting made him believe she was done supporting him. He'd have to get a job once he got back to campus.

His whole break was messed up because of it. He had plans to chill with Lacey more often but due to not having a car available to him, all of those plans flew out the window.

He wanted to kiss her. He missed her lips already. Had he known he would miss her like he was, he probably would have gone ahead and given her what she wanted that day.

He was honest about why he hadn't wanted to go there with her yet, but he also left out that he didn't have any condoms. He knew if he told her just that, she'd probably not be as upset as she was. The other reason sounded better.

He'd tried to send her a message on Christmas but when she didn't respond, he knew that she was probably upset. He didn't have time to call her with everything that was going on.

His cousin Rex came in through the front door but Case could hear Vera, his cousin's whose place he was staying out, screaming for him to get out. Case frowned.

"What you do to her?" he asked. Rex smiled before shaking his head. Case knew it was something but left it alone.

"You call her yet?" he asked. Case shook his head. "Why not."

"You don't know her man," he said. "She's probably pissed."

"So what you just aint gon talk to her ever again?" he asked.

"No."

"Well whats the hold up?"

Rex walked back down the hallway and Case could hear his cousin's wrestling within the next few minutes. He pulled his phone from the charger and hit Lacey's speed dial. To his surprise, she answered.

"Look who finally decided to show up," she said, full of attitude.

"Yo beautiful, you mad at me?" he asked. He heard her suck her teeth.

"Yes," she whined. "Why'd you dip on me like that?"

The softness in her tone caught him off guard. He felt guilty then for not keeping in touch with her. He could have made a few minutes here and there.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I miss you."

"I don't buy it."

"Why not?"

"I haven't talked to you in almost two weeks," she said.

"That doesnt mean I dont miss you," Case said, licking his bottom lip. She was starting to sound like she was done with him.
