One year later

Lacole sighed as she looked at pictures of Nikki and Miles Junior on Facebook. It was a photo album that Nikki named, The Familia. She, Miles and five month old Miles Jr. had taken pictures a few weeks ago. Nikki and Miles seemed to be stable at the moment so Lacey was happy about it.

She was not happy about the fact that she hadnt been home in two months because of money issues.

Lacey ended up at Illinois State University in Bloomington Normal after graduation. She'd been there for two months and was horribly home sick. She missed her mom, surprisingly, and Nikki and the baby.

Lacey also missed Sean.

Her breakup with Aiden was hard for her to get over. It was months into her senior year before she even allowed a guy to approach her. Sean was someone she'd known from middle school that snuck his way into her heart. They weren't officially together but he'd chased her the last few months of their senior year.

Lacey sometimes felt guilty that she'd given Sean her virginity and not Aiden. She could only chalk it up to not being ready when she was with Aiden but after a while, she just got tired of waiting. Sean was direct and blunt with what he wanted and that excited her. They'd been friends so his intentions were never confused but somehow they had morphed into this in between state that was just fun.

She was in between classes, sitting down in the café of Watterson Towers, waiting on her roommate Sabrina. They had the same English Comp class, so they were meeting for lunch.

Lacey had taken her laptop with her to her psychology class because it was easier for her to take notes. She still smiled every time she turned on the graduation gift from her mother. She seemed to be a little nicer now that Lacey was away at college. She noticed she had a new message and decided to see who it was from.

Casey Lenox

Alabama is boring. Got a new phone. Need your number.

Lacey smiled before quickly replying with her number. She missed Case a little bit too.

After her break up with Aiden, she and Case become closer friends. They seemed to develop this counseling friendship that comforted the both of them. They'd even hung out a few times but that was before Lacey got involved with Sean. There were a lot of things that Case did that annoyed Lacey to no end, but they seemed to be drawn to each other so they both decided a friendship would suffice.

Case had gone to a school down in Alabama on a scholarship.

Lacey picked at her sandwich before pulling her phone out to text Sean again. He didn't have a Facebook page so she didn't bother sending him a message. She was irritated. They weren't a couple but he could at least give her the courtesy of responding to a message or two. It wasn't like she called or bugged him a lot.

She sighed just as someone plopped down in the booth with her. She looked up with a knowing smirk to see Sabrina put her tray down in front of her and slid her bag next to her on the seat.

Sabrina King was not your stereotypical mixed girl. Her dad was white and her mom was black but she dabbled in all different cultures. It showed mostly in her taste in men, which was all over the place. She was adorable though. She and Lacey were the same height but Sabrina had a little more weight on her than Lacey did. She was light with freckles and Lacey joked that she was only black in her hair and hips. Sabrina had sandy brown hair that she usually kept in a ponytail with a hat on. It was cute on her, however, Lacey had been showing her how to take better care of her hair.

"I hate eating down here!" she said.

"Well you're the one who didn't want to go to Wal-Mart last night," Lacey said. Sabrina clucked her tongue against her top row of teeth and rolled her eyes.
