Lacey tapped her sneaker against the bottom of the worn wood on her aunt's coffee table. It was one that didn't really match the rest of the furniture but seemed to blend okay. The wood was chipped around the bottom but the top of it was covered by a large piece of glass that held pictures of all of her cousins in it. She loved the pictures. Most of them were old but every now and then a new one was snuck in a corner or something.
She felt bad that she hadnt been really listening to what her aunt was saying at the moment. She couldnt stop thinking about what happened not even an hour ago. It was the furthest shed ever let Aiden go and Lacey was a little excited about it. She had been thinking about letting him have what he had been waiting for. Sometimes he was more patient than other times, but overall he had done right by her over the last two years.
"Tricia would kill me if you knew how much time you were spending with that boy over here!" Marcie screamed. Rici looked at Lacey with an apologetic expression and Lacey looked up at the ceiling.
"Ti-ti, we weren't over there long. I didn't have any money to eat and he was paying," Lacey said, lifting the Portello's bag with her half eaten sandwich in it. Marcie rolled her eyes.
"Taking all day," she said. "I have a date."
Lacey and Rici looked at each other and tried not to smile or laugh. That was the only real reason Marcie was lecturing them about being at Aiden's. She stalked off down the hall to her room and the cousins relaxed on the couch.
"She is so OC," Rici said, flipping through the movie channels to find something to watch. Lacey nodded while sending Aiden a message that he got her in trouble. She looked up to see Mel coming through the door and smiled.
"There's my boo," she said. Mel smiled before sitting down next to Lacey and hugging her. Lacey wrapped her up in her arms before pulling on her shirt. "Why you're shirt so tight?"
"Because she's a hoochie," Rici said. Mel sucked her teeth before pulling the shirt down.
"I ain't have no other shirt to match these shoes," she said, sticking her foot off to show a pair of new sneakers.
"Who got you those?" Lacey asked, hoping it wasn't some fast little boy. Ever since Mel had been going through puberty, she had been getting a lot of male attention.
"Marcus bought them."
Lacey smiled, knowing that Marcus spoiled his sisters to death. MJ usually got a little jealous but Wanny always bought him stuff so it seemed to even out.
Lacey smacked her lips when an unknown number popped up on her phone. It was the second one that week and since she didn't answer unknown calls, it was bothering her. They didn't leave messages or anything.
"How long you here?" Mel asked.
"Until Sunday Morning," Lacey said. Mel smiled.
"You going to MJ's game with us tomorrow?"
"You know it!" Lacey said and Rici laughed. MJ always hated when they all came to his games because they were loud. Lacey knew he secretly loved it though. He told them they didn't need to come since it was a scrimmage game, they started school a week earlier than Lacey did.
About half an hour after Marcie left, everyone was home and the house was live. It was okay when she first got there but it irritated Lacey that it was never a quiet moment in that house. Marcus came in pretty late so hed usually make noise and wake everyone up. Wanny usually had some guy in the house and often got into it with Marcie about it. Lacey figured she'd want to move out being twenty-one but she seemed to be comfortable in her mom's house.
