"Come on, papito. Hoy es tu cumpleaños." Venus said quietly as she gently shook Luis. Luis groaned and rolled over so his head was turned away from his mother. "Quieres hacer un pastel con tu papá, o no?" Venus asked. She pulled out a plastic party horn and started blowing it continuously. Luis rolled over and once he did, Venus blew one more time and threw her arms up. "Feliz cumpleaños, papito!"
Luis stared at her before smiling and grabbing the horn out of her mouth and blowing it. He looked around his room in amazement because of the amount of balloons on his cieling and the present bag sitting at the end of his bed.
"Gracias, mamá." Luis smiled. He sat up and hugged her, then started giggling when she kissed his cheeks. "Cake?"
Venus laughed and stood up with him in her arms. "Cake is for later. We can eat birthday pancakes."
Luis nodded and hummed as Venus carried him over to the kitchen. On the table, there was a stack of normal pancakes, and in the place he always sits, there was a stack of Venus' "birthday pancakes". They were really just a stack of small pancakes, because Luis doesn't always finish the big ones, with a glaze, sprinkles, a little bit of whip cream and a candle in the center.
Luis' eyes lit up as Venus set him in the seat and he looked up at her with a big smile before turning back to the pancakes. He quickly thought of a wish and blew out the candle.
Venus clapped and Luis looked around before joining her. "You're such a big boy now." Venus pouted. "I told you to stop growing, why don't you listen?"
"I want to be big like papá." Luis cheered. Venus smiled at him and moved the bowl of fruit closer so he could get some if he chose. "Is papá coming?"
"No, papá wants us to go to his house." Venus told the now 3 year old.
The two continued to eat their breakfast, Luis going quickly so he could open the present he saw on his bed earlier.
"Can I open now?" Luis asked Venus. He climbed onto his bed to sit next to her and smiled when she handed the bag over. The smile stayed on his face as he took the tissue paper out and he started bouncing when he pulled out the iPad mini box. "Gracias mama."
"You're welcome, papito. Now you can have your own games and not steal my phone." Venus told him. "You ready to go?" Luis nodded after he unboxed his new iPad and Venus set it up for him so he could play something in the car. Luis held Venus' hand as they walked out of the house and to her truck.
While Venus drove down the street, Luis was tracing shapes in the back seat while a voice said the names of them. "Mama, I like circles. They look like my head." Luis told her.
Venus glanced at him through the rearview mirror and smiled at how he was repeating after the voice in the game. "Estamos aquí, papito."
Luis waited to be unbuckled from his carseat and handed Venus his ipad so he could run to the Santos he was close with. "Happy birthday, little homie." Pablo greeted the 3 year old. He picked Luis up as he was running and threw him up before catching and hugging him. "Hey, Venus." Pablo greeted. "How you been?"
"I'm good, better than I was the last time I was here." She replied. "I'm sorry I blew up on all of you."
"Woah, don't apologize. We didn't tell you and that was fucked up on our part. It doesn't help much, but I told him not to do it to you." Pablo explained.
"I know, chulo. I know the type of person you are, but I still don't like that you didn't tell me." Venus pointed out and Pablo nodded before looking down. "But I miss my best friend, so can we hate each other later?"
Pablo chuckled and nodded as he wrapped an arm around Venus' head and brought her to him. "I'd rather not hate each other, but sure." Venus smiled up at him and wrapped her arms around his waist. "So you and Spooky?"
"No, I don't trust him yet and I'm making him earn it back."
Pablo nodded and let a smile slip out. "Aye fools, Oscar's calling everyone inside." Sad Eyes called out. Luis was sitting on his shoulder and waved when Venus and Pablo looked at him.
Venus walked into the house, pushing back the memories from the last time she was over. "Luis, you helping or not?" Oscar asked from the kitchen. On the counter, a variety of ingredients were spread out and Luis leaned down from Sad Eyes' arms to grab the sprinkles.
"I like strawberry." Luis smiled and was about to walk across the counter, but Oscar grabbed him before he could step on the eggs.
"Your present's outside." Luis smiled and jumped down before running to the backyard.
"Mamá, mira!" Venus sent Oscar a look and walked outside where Luis was already giggling. He was inside a small motorized car and turning it on by the time she got outside. The small car, strangely enough, was a complete remodel of Oscar's impala.
The guys cane outside and started laughing as Luis drove around the backyard. "Where'd you get that?"
"I had it customized." Oscar shrugged. "You said I had to work for your trust, this is me working. Oh, and I told the guys to bring their kids so Luis can play with people his age while I make his cake."
"I thought you said he could help you?" Venus asked as Luis laughed loudly and drove away from Pablo who was pretending to chase him.
"He can decorate."
