"Your sister has an appointment after school today so I'll be picking you up after practice." Mom looks at Isaac as she speaks. I sit at the kitchen table with my feet up in the chair hugging my knees as I doze off. The leggings I'm wearing allows me to move freely and the loose cropped tee is airy enough for me to need to hug myself for warmth. I slip on a black and white Nike windbreaker on my way out the door.
"What's your appointment for?" Isaac asks me as we are heading to the school.
"Do you want the truth or what I told mom?" I ask.
"The truth, of course." He states.
"My period is really late." I sigh. He looks at me in shock and has to swerve to not hit a sign from where he drifted.
"Is that why you want to find the guy?"
"One of the reasons. I just feel so alone in this. You and Camila have been so nice and supportive but neither of you was there. He was and I think these flashbacks would stop if I could just find out who it is. I'm tired of not knowing." I admit.
"What did you tell mom?"
"You were there. I just said my period is really bad."
"What does that mean?" He asks curiously.
"To her, it probably meant that I was cramping really bad and bleeding heavily and that I've been super moody and uncomfortable. To me, it meant that it's bad. Badly late."
"Is there something they can do for bad periods?"
"Yeah. Different things really. Some people take pills for it or have to change their diet or exercising can help." I shrug.
"Why don't all girls have this done?" He asks.
"I don't know. It doesn't always work like that."
"Girls are confusing." He shakes his head and I laugh. "Wanna grab breakfast with me?" Isaac asks hopefully.
"I ate at home."
"I was sitting right there, Hals." He glares at me.
"Bye Isaac!" I wave and walk to Camila.
"Hey, chick. Looking forward to finding out if you are pregnant or not? I have picked out baby names." Camila squeals.
"C, we don't want a baby." I sigh.
"But your baby would be so cute." She pouts.
"That doesn't mean I want it now." I snap.
"What are you going to do if you are." She asks seriously. I sigh again. I haven't really thought about it. I don't want an abortion and I don't really want to give it away, but I can't take care of a baby.
"I don't know."
"You need to know this stuff, Haley."
"I know. I'll figure it out when it comes to that. I should head on. See you later." I slip my earbuds in, enjoying my moment of peace. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I listen to it all through first. Artists like One Republic, Maejor, Katy Perry, Arianna Grande, and AJ Mitchell fill my ears for over an hour and I lay my head down happily. I do it in second too and I am tempted to in third but Shawn is talkative.
"Nice shirt." I look down at the cropped yellow FRIENDS shirt and thank him. "Not talking much today? You had a lot to say yesterday." He whispers in my ear and I shiver.
"Just thinking about my appointment," I say shakily.
"What's it for?" He asks.
"To see if I'm pregnant."
