Bucky and I weaved seperately through the crowds, eyes never leaving the twins. I felt wolfish, following the two like this.
It didn't take long to get to the church, which also happened to be the building Bucky and I had stored our supplies. Bucky growled deep in his throat as we met up in front of the church.
"No one should know we're here, it's okay," I nosed at his muzzle.
He relaxed a bit, "Let's go see what's going on?" I suggested before trotting up the steps. Bucky huffed a breath before chasing after me.
.
.
.
I slunk through a hole in the wall, which was right behind our gear. Bucky was right behind me."Talk," the girl demanded, "And if you are wasting our time," she trailed off.
"Did you know this church is in the exact center of the city? The elders decreed it so that everyone could be equally close to God. I like that. The geometry of belief," the figure commented, remaining seated in the center of the room.
"You're wondering why you can't look inside my head," he announced after the two were silent.
Bucky took a step back with a quiet whine, his ears flattened against his head.
"Sometimes it's hard. But sooner or later, every man shows himself," Wanda boldly informed.
The figure took that moment to get up and turn around, I crept a bit closer as it revealed a metal body. "Oh, I'm sure they do. But you needed something more than a man. That's why you let Stark take the scepter," the robot figured.
I bore my teeth, but refrained from growling.
"I didn't expect. But I saw Stark's fear, I knew it would control him, make him self-destruct," the girl admitted, a bit hesitant.
Bucky pushed his side against me with a soft 'Don't'.
I stayed put, "Everyone creates the thing they dread. Men of peace create engines of war, invaders create avengers, people create...smaller people? Uh...children! I lost the word there. Children. Designed to supplant them, to help them...end," the robot said, semi-convincingly.
"Is that why you've come? To end the Avengers?" He has the girl's attention now.
I felt Bucky's chest rumble with a silent growl beside me.
"I've come to save the world. But also, yeah. We'll move out right away. This is a start, but there's something we need to begin the real work,".
Bullshit, it was at times like this that I'd wished I had put in some sort of communication in my eagle.
I twitched an ear in Bucky's direction, "Let's get out of here and try to tell Steve," was all I said before I slunk back out the way we'd come. They needed to know about this.
"Shouldn't we listen a bit longer?" Bucky questioned as he followed me out.
"You can, I'm going to try to find a way to tell Steve," and that was where we parted ways.
