{Author's note}(I apologize in advance for my inability to write a New York accent)
(By the way this is gonna be hella long)It's been one week since the strike. And Jack Kelly had everything he ever wanted. He was in Santa Fe with the person he loved most.
You!
But something was still not right with the newsie. He felt as if something was still missing and as if there was something he still hadn't done. Hadn't said. And he already knew what it was.
And so here we are today. In Santa Fe, right at the edge the city, on a beautiful open field that's framed with, what seemed like, a million tall trees. And you stood right in the middle of it all, looking over at the sky. Jack stood there frozen, staring at the beautiful sight. He took a shaky breath, put his hat in his hands and squeezed the [favorite flowers] in his hand. Finally, he built up he courage and stepped forward.
"Hey [nick name]! Howse you been? Ya miss me? Because I sure as hell missed ya! Oh hey, Ise brought these for you!" He placed the flowers in front of you "I know how much youse loved them!" he smiled to himself and turned to look the sunset. It was breathtaking. The sky was painted in shades of yellow, orange, red and purple. "Brings back memories, doesn't it?" He paused trying to remember the nights you two would spend on the roof of the tall building. He sighed and turned to face you "So what do you think of yer new home? Youse like it here? Just like we imagined it! I mean it isn't exactly new to you. You've been here quite some time. I just haven't visited, haven' I?" Jack was about to say something else but he stopped himself. He was still questioning whether to tell you or not. Better late then never He took a deep breath and started
"Hey [nick name] do remember how wese met? In da Refuge? Youse was so cold yet kind in yer own way. Youse was only tryin' to help. And Ise was unbearable. I would try to flirt with ya every single day!" He laughed bitterly to himself "Oh god, how did ya even stand me?"

Jack had just been caught stealing and was brought to the Refuge. Since he tried to run he was beat up pretty bad. He had a huge cut on his stomach and he was slipping in and out of consciousness. All he knew was that he was getting dragged by his arm to the other kids.
On the way he caught the attention of most of the other kids there. One of them being a [hair colored] girl (if you're a boy feel free to change it. to me it's just simpler to write girl pronouns because I am a girl. Nothing against LGBTQ+ ) This girl was known to have been in the Refuge the longest. She knew everything and everyone. She could tell you the ins and outs of this place in her sleep. But she didn't use that knowledge to help herself, but to help everyone else. She snuck in food and medicine. She took care of the sick and the injured. Yet she never really talked to or got close to anyone. No body knew why or how long she had been there. Heck no one even knew her name. And she liked it like that.
She was in the middle of reading a book she'd snuck in with her when she heard foot steps down the hall. She quickly stashed the book and pretended to be doing something else. She was expecting it to be just another daily check on the prisoner-kids, or even food if they were lucky. But to her surprise they were dragging behind them a boy. He looked not a year older than her. She noticed how badly he was hurt and started to take a mental note of all the supplies she would need to patch him up.
The girl waited until the guards were out of site, then she took the supplies and snuck out to where they had left the boy. She knelt down to his level and noticed he was unconscious. Yeah I can't work like this She started to slap him to wake him up.
