I woke up to my dad slightly shaking me, causing me to be startled. I scooted to the other side of my bed in a frantic state. "Chloe, Chloe, it's okay. I-I was just waking you up so we can catch our plane." My dad lightly said.
"Sorry," I mumbled. I lifted the blankets off of me slowly as my dad exited the room.
I got up and pulled out black leggings, a neon tie dye shirt, with black vans. I then threw my hair in a messy bun. The whole time I was yawning, attempting to wipe the sleep out of my eyes. Though it wasn't too early in the morning it was summer. I could technically be asleep still.
I grabbed my packed suitcase and walked into the living room. Mike saw me walk in and gave me a reassuring smile. He walked up to me and pulled me into a tight hug. He whispered in my ear, "I'm gonna stick by your side the whole time. Don't worry." I smiled up at him and nodded.
My dad came in with a huge suitcase. "Alright let's hit the road to get to the airport!" He said with a huge grin. Mike helped me with my bag and put it in the back.
We drove to the airport and went on the plane with me by the window seat, Mike in the middle and my dad at the end.
I slept the whole time and woke up to Mike poking me in the cheek, "Come on we are about to land." I groaned as I felt the plane hit the ground.
My dad rented a car so we had one waiting for us once we got off. We drove up to the beach house. Once we got to it I stared at it admiring its beauty.
It was white with a blue door and it was on the white sand. It was a two story house. In the backyard part was more white sand and farther back was the nice, clear ocean. The beach house was on private area so a public road would have to be at least 30 minutes walking distance.
I got out of the car, not even bothering to grab my bag and ran inside. I looked all around. The first floor has a kitchen, living room, game room, half bathroom, and a laundry room. The second floor had three bedrooms with two full bathrooms.
I walked to the first room and it was white with blue sheets. I laid back on the bed letting out a breath, breathing in the smell of the ocean and clean sheets. I opened my eyes and saw a window to my left in the room. It was one of those windows that you would crawl out of to sit on the roof.
My curiosity got the best of me as I walked over to it. Beginning to climb out to watch the waves crash, Mike walked with my suitcase. "Don't worry I got it." His voice dropped with sarcasm.
I quickly jumped down from the frame of the window. I laughed shyly, "Oh sorry, thanks. I just wanted to look around."
He threw the suitcase on my bed and chuckled. "It's fine. So, it's six o'clock and dad wants me to go get dinner. I'm going to get Chinese because I know it's your favorite." I smiled and nodded. He continued, "Do you want to come with me?"
I shook my head no. "Nah, I'm gonna stay here and chill with dad."
Mike gave me a questioning look. "Will you be ok-" He stopped himself before he could finish. He sighed giving in. "Fine. I'll be back in a hour."
I smiled. "Okay thank you. Be safe!" He brought me into a tight hug, "You too." And walked out the door. I didn't know what was to come next. I should have went with Mike.
I climbed out the window and sat there, watching the waves crash on the shore. The wind was hitting me in the face but I sat there in a daze.
After 30 minutes of just thinking and watching the ocean I decided to go down by my dad. I walked downstairs and saw him sitting on the couch looking at the tv. I sat on the other side of the couch and looked at the tv to see what he was watching. However, nothing was playing. I giggled, "Dad you know nothing is playing on the tv, right?"
He continued to look at the tv for a minute and then turned his head towards me. "I know." He said with a crazed look.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. "So Mike is getting dinner?" I tried changing the subject.
My dad stood up and went to the front door. "Yup and he won't be home for another 45 minutes. Plenty of time." He whispered the last part. He locked all bolts on the door, which were a lot.
"What?" I asked starting to sweat.
"Chloe, Chloe, Chloe, you remind me so much of your mother," He told me inching closer and closer to me. At that point I was off the couch and backing up. Every image of him hitting me came back into my head, I was shaking. I hit the wall and he chuckled as he stood in front of me. He ran his dry knuckle down my cheek. "So beautiful." He whispered.
I tried pushing him off of me but he pinned me into the wall where pulled out a knife. "What are you doing!?" I exclaimed struggling under his grasp.
"Doing what I should have done a long time ago."
My eyes widened, he planned all of this. This whole vacation was to get to me. I couldn't let him though. So I kneed him hard in his area. He dropped the knife in pain, groaning. I quickly made a run for it. I didn't think about going to the front door because by the time I unlocked all the locks he would have gotten me.
I ran upstairs to my room and locked it. I ran to the window and went out to the roof. I looked down and saw the once white sand a darker shade because of night. I took in a deep breath and jumped, then ran.
And I ran as far as I could go.
