Lacey slept in late the next morning. I assumed it was jet lag and took advantage of the peace and quiet. I spent half the day getting ready for my first real outing with Niall. Around noon I decided he was probably waiting for me already so I wrote a quick note to Lacey and headed out the door.
As I walked to the park, I giggled at the crunch sound of snow beneath my winter boots. I felt silly but that's who I was and it was too late to change. Nonetheless, I felt odd acting that way in such a public place with so many witnesses. Instead of skipping along giddily, I put my hands in my furry pockets and admired the scent of the pearly colored cloth of my brand new jacket.
Even though I was still quite far away, all the white made Niall stand out in the mass of people. His eyes looked especially blue against the snowy background and the little flakes stuck in his hair shimmered in the sunlight. I smiled at the sight of his angelic appearance.
"Hi Chris!" Niall called in his endearing Irish accent.
"Hi!" I yelled back, unaware of what was coming. Suddenly, something hit me hard in the stomach. Snowball. I could hear Niall laughing hysterically across the field. I ran to him, scooping up snow on the way, molding it into a round shape with my bare hands. As I approached him quickly, Niall began in the opposite direction, but not before I could pelt him in the back. Now it was my turn to laugh. I threw my head back and squeezed my eyes shut.
"Hahahaha, the look on your face, hahah- oomf." Niall had tackled me onto the ground. Like the first time we had met, his face was incredibly close to mine. Both of us were breathing heavy from all the running, each breath clearly visible in the icy air.
"Gotcha," he whispered, almost to himself. Niall's covered fingers laced with mine. My skin felt strange against the leathery material. I saw the flash of a camera, heard the shutters, but I didn't mind. So what if this got in the news or all over twitter. I didnt care if I was in a magazine or two.
My heart fluttered when I realized Niall's nose was brushing against my own. I allowed my eyes to close, unprepared for the kiss that followed, a kiss filling my entire body with a comforting warmth. Niall's lips were softer than I could have ever imagined and I was enjoying the thought of my ex-boyfriends face when he saw these pictures. Half the crowd 'awwhed' but the rest of the teen girls got angry or cried. I felt sorry for them, that they dedicated their lives to these boys but got nothing but torture and neglect in return. It wasn't the lads fault though that they can only be dating one person. And as our first kiss came to an end, I was even more appreciative that Niall had chosen me.
I stayed speechless, unsure of how to express my feelings at that moment. Nialls face broke into a wide grin. It was a contagious smile.
"I'm hungry. Want to go eat now?" I asked finally.
Niall picked me off the ground and I brushed the snow of my back.
"Good plan."
Niall offered me an arm which I took without question. We strolled the busy sidewalks of London, in search of what he claimed to be one his favorite eateries, beside Nandos of course. I couldn't help but look up at Niall affecionately as we walked casually, even though I had noticed the pack of girls that seemed to be following us. Niall saw my concern.
"Don't worry, people follow us around all the time. They even try to chase our cars down. Sometimes it gets pretty weird. Most cases are solved with a few pictures with them." That caused Niall to stop and turn around. "They should leave after this I promise," he whispered to me.
"Who wants a picture?" he asked them brightly, his arms extended warmly. They already had their phones out. Plenty of photos were taken and some even begged me to join in. Most of the fans were probably fifteen or younger, eager to have a shot at one of the boys.
When they tried to kiss him he stopped them saying, "Sorry, I love you all but I have a girlfriend."
It took me a moment to figure out he was talking about me. They exhaled in frustration and I shrugged my shoulders apologetically.
"Wait, you never asked me properly, so in that case it's not official," I stated out of the blue.
"Oh you're right." The posse of directioners held up their video cameras. Niall grinned mischeviously.
"Chris, will you date me?" he asked on one knee, crystal eyes doubling in size.
"Of course!" I threw my arms around him. The girls giggled uncontrollably.
"Alright, we'll see ya around," they said in unison, waving their reluctant goodbyes. But I knew from personal experience that it was rare to ever spot the boys "around" after your first time.
"Okay, I'm now starving." Niall clutched his stomach and I hurried us into an authentic on the corner.
"Close enough?" I said, looking for Niall's necessary approval. He nodded and ordered two larges with extra cheese.
